Russian deputies seek accountability for Armenia genocide denial

...

MOSCOW: Russian lawmaker Sergei Mironov said Wednesday his party had submitted a bill to parliament on holding to account anyone who denies that the 1915 killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turkish forces was a "genocide."

"We have just submitted a bill on responsibility for failure to acknowledge the fact of a genocide of Armenians by Turkey in 1915," Mironov, the leader of the opposition Just Russia party, said on his Twitter account, a day after the Turkish air force shot down a Russian jet.

It comes a little more than 24 hours after a Russian jet was downed by Turkey after it buzzed Turkish airspace.
Initial fears that it could have been a bomb planted by an ISIS sleeper cell or a retaliation by Moscow were dampened by Turkish officials who insisted there was no terror link.

lol. Peace via Russia and China? lol. Both nations have probably killed more people in the last 100 years than every other nation put together.

Give us evidence that they killed around the world more people than America and the west.
Oh yes I forgot they killed millions in India, American Indians, Iraqis, Afghanistanes, Jews, Australian Aborigines, New Zealend Maoris, millions of African slaves, all of that was done by Russia and China.
Of course in accordance with brainwashed zombies , Fox and CNN.

You do know that Mao was responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths and Stalin killed about 30 million in his collectivisation alone.

It's not either/or athos. China and Russia and the US are capable of living with respect for each other. They have too much to lose by doing otherwise.

I asked you for evidence that they killed PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD WHO THEY'VE WANTED TO ENSLAVE AS THE WEST DID.
What they did in their back yards that's not your and western business and also it is negligible in comparison with genocides that westerners did to other peoples in the world thru the history.
Before judge others judge yourself if you don't want to be a worst Hypocrite.

Unfortunately US and west have demonstrated that's not correct due to their infinite ambitions to conquer and expand and enslave others. Otherwise why west and NATO encircled Russian borders. As I said before Russia is the last obstacle for US and the west in general to rule the world thru oppression and Wall Street slavery. That's a reality everything else is an illusion. Only solution is a multi polar world with Russia and China also superpowers instead presently uni polar world with only one superpower USA.

Erdoğan: No apology to Russia, they need to apologize to us

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appeared set to increase tension with Russia in the wake of his country’s downing of a Russian jet on Nov. 24, vowing that his country would offer no apology for the incident.

“I think if there is a party that needs to apologize, it is not us,” Erdoğan said in an exclusive interview with CNN International on Nov. 26. “Those who violated our airspace are the ones who need to apologize. Our pilots and our armed forces, they simply fulfilled their duties, which consisted of responding to ... violations of the rules of engagement. I think this is the essence.”

Earlier the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Turkey still had not apologized for the downing of the Russian warplane or given assurances that “the culprits of this crime” would be punished. Speaking at the Kremlin, Putin complained that he had not received an apology from Turkey or an offer “to make up for the damages.” Russia previously insisted that its plane never violated Turkish airspace as Turkey claimed.

Putin also said he regretted the fact that relations between Turkey and Russia had been driven into a stalemate.

Speaking to reporters during a visit to the Turkish Cypriot capital of Nicosia on Nov. 26, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also said Ankara would not apologize to Moscow.

“We don’t need to apologize on an occasion in which we are right,” Çavuşoğlu said. “But we said on the phone [Nov. 25] that we are sorry,” he said, referring to a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.

Hours before the release of his interview with CNN International, Erdoğan addressed a group of village chiefs when he said Turkey had no reason to target Russia.

“We are exerting efforts to maintain peace and serenity in the region, not create new tensions. There is no reason to target Russia with whom we have multidimensional and very strong relations … Our disagreement with Russia on Syria is one thing and the activation of our rules of engagement is something else,” Erdoğan said.

The Turkish president also dismissed “emotional” suggestions that projects with Russia could be canceled following the Nov. 24 incident, which was one of the most serious publicly acknowledged clashes between a NATO member and Russia for half a century, and further complicated international efforts to battle the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria.

“We are strategic partners. ‘Joint projects may be halted, ties could be cut.’ Are such approaches fitting for politicians?” Erdoğan asked.

“First the politicians and our militaries should sit down and talk about where errors were made and then focus on overcoming those errors on both sides. But instead, if we make emotional statements like this, that wouldn’t be right,” he said.

Medvedev on Nov. 25 alleged that Turkish officials were benefiting from ISIL oil sales, while Lavrov said it was no secret that “terrorists” use Turkish territory.

“Shame on you. It’s clear where Turkey buys its oil and gas ... Those who claim we are buying oil from Daesh like this must prove their claims. Nobody can slander this country,” Erdoğan said, using an Arabic acronym for ISIL.

“If you are seeking the source of weaponry and financial power of Daesh, the first place to look is the regime [of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad] and the countries that act with it,” he said.

On Nov. 25, Putin also argued that the current leadership of Turkey was purposefully supporting the country’s Islamization.

“The problem is not in the tragedy we faced yesterday [the Su-24 incident], the problem is much deeper,” Putin told reporters. “We see – and not only we, I assure you that the entire world sees it as such – that the current leadership of Turkey has been for a number of years pursuing a purposeful policy of support and the Islamization of the country,” Putin said.

Erdoğan had a response for those remarks as well.

“Turkey's 99 percent [of the population] is Muslim, how can you say that? How can a phrase like that be used? Can I come up and say ‘The administration is exerting efforts at the Christianization of Russia?’ There are 30 millions of Muslims living there,” Erdoğan said. “Tayyip Erdoğan is Muslim. This country’s 99 percent is Muslim. Then what should I exert efforts for? We are solely exerting efforts to fulfill what our religions requires; that’s what we do,” he said.

Two journalists arrested for story on intelligence trucks bound for Syria

Cumhuriyet Editor-in-Chief Can Dündar and the daily’s Ankara Bureau Chief Erdem Gül were arrested Nov. 26 due to a story about Turkish intelligence trucks bound for Syria in early 2014.

“We are accused of ‘spying.’ The president said [our action is] ‘treason.’ We are not traitors, spy, or heroes; we are journalists. What we have done here was a journalistic activity,” Dündar said before testifying to prosecutors Nov. 26.

“Of course this prosecution will help enlighten how these incidents took place, rather than how we covered this story.”

Dündar and Gül were arrested on charges of espionage and being a member of an armed terrorist organization based on reports in  Cumhuriyet regarding Syrian-bound trucks sent by the National Intelligence Agency (MİT).

The armed organization mentioned by the prosecutors refers to Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), a term used by prosecutors to define the followers of Fethullah Gülen, a U.S.-based Islamic scholar.

Footage released by Cumhuriyet on May 29 reportedly showed gendarmerie and police officers opening crates on the back of trucks which contained what the daily described as weapons and ammunition sent to Syria by MİT in January 2014.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan filed an individual criminal complaint against Dündar and Cumhuriyet on June 2, claiming that the story “included some footage and information that are not factual” while saying the person “who wrote the story will pay a heavy price.”

The criminal complaint, which was filed to the Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s Office to be sent to Istanbul where Cumhuriyet is based, argued that the newspaper “participated in the actions” of the U.S.-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gülen, Erdoğan’s erstwhile ally, whose followers are accused of infiltrating the police, the judiciary and the bureaucracy.

“By publishing fabricated footage and information that were leaked to him by the parallel organization, [Dündar] participated in the actions of the organization’s members who searched the trucks and plotted with fabricated evidence to create a perception … that the Republic of Turkey as helping terrorist organizations,” the complaint said.

The plaintiff accused Dündar of both “trying to manipulate justice” with fabricated material and “violating confidentiality” by publishing the story. Erdoğan’s lawyer, Muammer Cemaloğlu, also requested the prosecutor launch a public lawsuit following the investigation.

Erdoğan said on Nov. 24 that whether or not the trucks carried weapons was irrelevant.

“What difference would it make whether the trucks contained weapons or not?” he asked, defining the publishing of the story as a “betrayal.”

Erdoğan claimed the trucks were set to deliver humanitarian aid to Bayırbucak Turkmens and that the journalists were complicit in “sabotaging” this aid merely to harm the image of himself and the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government.

Russian Defense Ministry refutes reports on destruction of relief convoy by Russian jets

Major General Igor Konashenkov drew the journalists’ attention to the fact that the photos and video materials from the scene did not show any craters from explosions

MOSCOW, November 26 /TASS/. Reports that Russian warplanes have allegedly hit a Syrian relief convoy, which was on its way from Turkey, is speculation, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesperson Major General Igor Konashenkov told journalists on Thursday.

"Foreign media reports that Russian warplanes have allegedly destroyed a column of trucks from an ‘aid convoy’, which was on its way from Turkey, near the Bab el Salam border crossing are speculation," the major general said.

Konashenkov drew the journalists’ attention to the fact that the photos and video materials from the scene did not show any craters from explosions and no splinters which were supposed to have cut all the trucks subject to the shelling and bombardment.

"Finally, nothing was left of those ammunitions. Therefore, we would recommend you not to try to pass off a burning truck convoy with munitions meant for the militants operating to the north of Aleppo as relief aid next time," the Russian general said.

"The Turkish side never notified anybody that it was planning to send a relief convoy. Let alone, that any aid convoy should have special identification marks," he added.

Turkey to Cooperate With Russia on Downed Su-24 - Turkish PM 27.11.2015

Turkey will cooperate with Russia to reduce tensions over the incident with the Russian Su-24 shot down in Syria, the Turkish Air Force, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated in a column for The Times newspaper.

On Tuesday, a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft was downed by an air-to-air missile while carrying out precision strikes against terrorists in northern Syria. The missile was fired by a Turkish F-16 fighter in response to alleged violation of the Turkish airspace by the Russian jet.

"While the measures to defend our territory will remain in place, Turkey will work with Russia and our allies to calm tensions,"- Reuters reports, citing the Turkish Prime Minister.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed Turkey's claims that it was impossible to recognize the downed warplane in Syria as a Russian attack aircraft before the attack.

Greek Protesters Burn US, Turkish Flags, Want Out of NATO After Su-24  27.11.2015

A crowd of Greek citizens gathered in the center of Athens to express their condemnation of the attack on the Russian Su-24 bomber. The protesters burnt Turkish and American flags and demanded that Greece withdraws from NATO.

On Tuesday, a Russian Su-24 aircraft was shot down while on a mission against terrorists in northern Syria by a Turkish F-16 fighter in response to an alleged violation of the Turkish airspace.

About one hundred Greeks gathered Thursday on the Athens' central Square Syntagma and headed towards the Turkish embassy, Ria Novosti reported. They were stopped by police 300 meters away from the Embassy, right next to the monument in honor of Greek pilots that died in an incident with the Turkish air force near Imia island in 1996. After that incident, the two NATO countries were on the verge of war.

"How symbolic!" one of the demonstrators exclaimed.

The protesters were holding banners condemning NATO. They also burnt US and Turkish flags and dropped leaflets demanding that Greece withdraws from the alliance.

A police cordon didn't let Panagiotis Lafazanis, the leader of a new Greek left-wing political party, Popular Unity, and one of the protest organizers hand over an address for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the Embassy officials, citing orders from above.

"The whole world is disturbed by the possible consequences of a Russian plane downing by your country. Contrary to your claims, the aircraft didn't violate Turkish airspace and acted within Syrian territory in a mission against the Islamic State terrorist group." the address read. "We don't know who is responsible for the order to destroy the aircraft. We want to believe this madman wasn't you."

The protest participants cited daily violations of Greek airspace by Turkish planes.

"Maybe Greek pilots should follow the example of the crazy Turkish officer and down all Turkish military planes that violate our country's airspace on a daily basis?" they questioned.

People in the crowd expressed their support for Russia's actions in the Middle East aimed at preventing the spread of Islamic extremism and terrorism in the region, saying there is no defense for what Turkey has done. They believe that the world leaders understand it is essential to unite against the threat coming from the self-proclaimed Islamic State.

"Russia is currently on the frontline not letting this 'carcinoma' grow," a protestor said. "We agree with the Russian president that what Ankara did was a stab in the back. Not only in Russia's back, but in the back of the international anti-terrorist coalition."

The protesters added that they expect an official announcement from the Greek government regarding the provocation by Ankara.

Ankara claimed it downed the Russian airplane because it violated Turkey's airspace. Both the Russian General Staff and the Syrian Air Defense Command confirmed that the Su-24 aircraft never crossed into Turkish airspace.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a Wednesday statement that the downing of the Su-24 plane is a violation of the memorandum of understanding signed by Russia and the United States on flight safety during combat missions over Syria. In the document, the United States swears responsibility for the implementation of relevant rules by all participants of the US-led coalition, including Turkey, the ministry stressed.
