http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-04/royal-commission-examines-nsw-branch-natio...Counsel assisting Sarah McNaughton said the hearings would look at bills on his credit cards totalling almost $700,000 between 2009 and October 2015. The transactions include: - More than $39,000 in purchases from the website 'Catch Of The Day', including clothes, electric blankets, manchester, bed linen, cutlery sets, cameras, rugs, skateboards, LEGO toys, kitchen appliances, sunglasses, children's toys, iPads, Easter eggs, makeup and beauty care products, Tiffany & Co jewellery and perfume
- Almost $12,000 in iTunes purchases
- $2,271.70 in fees for dating websites
- Payments for entertainment, holidays and accommodation apparently unconnected with union duties
- The purchase of a tattoo
In opening the hearing, Ms McNaughton said the commission would probe payments totalling $271,000 made by the branch to Mr Gibson for "consultant services". Mr Belan's niece Danielle O'Brien was the branch's former accounts manager and was the first witness to take the stand. She broke down in tears repeatedly, apologising for using her union-issued credit card for personal shopping, including a caravan park holiday, coaching for a family member, hair dressing and online shopping.
