I think Bob Hawke invited the other political parties to his economic summit, is Labor, Greens etc invited to this one?

I doubt it.

A half baked idea.

I'll trade you a scrapping negative gearing for a scrapping of penalty rates.... Cheesy Grin

It would be great if you could explain the connection between these two issues, Swagman. Apart from the ideological agenda that drives them, I mean.

1. A tax incentive to encourage people to invest in real estate.
2. An increase in the hourly rate for weekend work.

Thoughts?

yeah get lost swaggy,.. only lefties allowed to whinge and whinge and whinge and whinge and bitch   eh.. kamel.???... aussie keeps pointing out the rules...and kamel is a stickler for aussies rules..right dear.

I'm not generally a fan of rules, dear. Live and let live, that's my motto. You're free to moan about lefties and I'm free to love you for it.

Swagman is also free to explain how penalty rates ward off customers over the weekend, but a 5% rise in the consumption tax will increase consumer confidence.

Thoughts?

you are a fan you love aussie and his rule book...and his rules are only ever directed to the right...its one of his rules...

swag is having a bitch I know thats the domain of the left.. and swag did overstep the mark......

but hell its Tuesday everyone is allowed one mistake.. stop whinging swag.. or 50 lashes..

I'm not sure how Swag overstepped the mark, dear. He said what he thinks.

I'm just wondering why he thinks this way. Remember, this is a discussion board. Asking what someone thinks is an invitation to express their thoughts.

What on earth is legitimate about the PAYE taxpayer having to give you a tax deduction for your business costs. There is nothing free market about that idea, its entirely socialist. Businesses whole justification for the profit they make is that they risk the investment but in truth what happens is that there are sooooooooo many BS deductions that the whole venture is really being bankrolled by the PAYE taxpayer. What is it we've learned from the GFC? On that's right, business wants socialism when it comes to taking the risk and capitalism when it comes to the profits. Time the leeches paid there way.

Very true.

Now now, it's a policy designed to raise the price of real estate and create a class of landlords and a sub-class of tenants.

There's no need to get all ideological about it.

The public opinion on the libs has set like concrete: a change of leaders does nothing!

Except raise the polls dramatically, raise the preferred PM to levels not seens since Rudd.

Perhaps you should inject less 'concrete'?

The sugar hit isn't public opinion: it's a sugar hit!

No probs.  The Left whinge about negative gearing, or the claiming of legitimate expenditures against earned incomes but are happy to keep people unemployed by championing illegitimate penalty rates.

A compromise reached via consensus..... would be to eliminate both.

will your life change if and when negative gearing get abolished.. it seem to weigh heavily on your wish list....

I am sure you will personally benefit.......yes!

are you just jealous that some actually spend their money wisely and reap a benefit that those who do not invest wisely miss out on???>... or maybe you dont rent out your investment property and therefore hate anyone who does.... rent out. Roll Eyes

as it is I dont SMOKE...but I realise I contribute to those who use the system for treating a disease that smoking has caused!!!!.

I also pay a levy for fire on my household insurance to pay for the bludgers that dont have insurance....at all.. but still get the firebrigade in times of need..

do I reckon everyone who lives even in a tent should pay for it  YES I DO...they should all pay for the roof over their heads...even if they only rent it...its their head thats being covered....well makes sense to me...

let those who live in rented homes pay their share of the rates water and insurance.... that way the owner doesnt have to pay extra on his/her insurance or loan because their place is rented...alls fair in love and war..

then they wont benefit from  neg.gear.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

and we can all move on.

everyman paying his fair share..

Cods, tenants already pay the rates and land tax on the residences they rent. Not insurance—it is not their asset.

Tax exemptions, also known as tax expenditures, are approaching and will soon surpass $50Bn just for super. You think that is sustainable? Superannuation, Negative Gearing, Capital Gains Tax exemption, the Fringe Benefits Tax that the Libs made looser in 2013, the seventy millionaires that pay no tax, the foreign companies that use dodgy accounting like cost shifting to pay no tax on revenue earned in Australia?

You seriously think all that can keep going in while pensions are cut, the GST is doubled, people priced out of seeing their doctor and so on? No freaking way!

cods still hasn't worked out we all know most wealth is inherited!

Most wealth is inherited: this is common knowledge.

Some just don't have money to invest and that is a fact because they are competing with people that inherited wealth and can always push the entry price out of reach!

It's fairly simple really. The 5% increase in GSt is fully compensated for so the actual increase in typical goods is nil. Penalty rates don't ward of customers. They ward off businesses even being open in some cases.

What about the 10% service charge on Sundays and public holidays, dear? That's there to hit the customers up for penalty rates.

You can't be too happy with this, Maria. We all know how you feel about paying 10% more.

I'm curious though. Can you think of another recent tax that had a compensation package in place? Just ask if you want a hint.

A 5% to 15% rise in power supply supply charges is a bit different to a 5% rise on everything. People are locked into electricity bills. They're free, however, to chose whether they eat out or not.

I'm curious why a GST that taxes everyone is good, but a tax on big companies that pollute is bad. Would you mind explaining this to me?

Are you dumb or what? GST affects virtually everything. The ability to avoid it is non-existent.

The Carbon Tax was an exercise in futility, taxing for the purpose of attacking a non-existent problem. The GST was designed to widen the tax base.
