From my personal experience, I have not met many Americans that have more than marginal knowledge of Australia. Ten years ago, I met some Americans that have worked in Australia for about 20 years. They were quite impressed by the attitudes of Australians, claiming that Australians seem to have a "with it" personality. But I don't know many American tourists that have more than a condescending valuation of Australia.

I think in 20 years time, Australia will remain part of the Anglosphere. Australia should have more sway over the Asia-Pacific region than vice versa, being that we still will be a resource rich nation. Besides, you can imagine that our discovery of vast crude oil in the last 10 years should see Australia become quite rich in at least the short term future.

Demographically, I can see Australia be about 80% caucasian, 10-15% Asian, and 5% 'other' (with aborigines making up the majority of 'other' races). Cities might have a large non-white minority scattered throughout the suburbs. Though, the cities may still be mostly caucasian. Regional towns and cities may still have a 90% caucasian demographic, and much will be the same about the culture of the towns.

I figure the CSIRO will develop new technologies to help primary industries maintain the rural industries. New industries will pop up, either long-term or new industries. And we will have technology in 2035 that would make our minds spin with disbelief, looking at it today.

Our main focus of influence should be on how markets and economies are adjusting in sth-east Asia, since they will be our primary focus of export markets. We could likely see ourselves becoming the food bowl producers for the Asian region, as our northern regions of Australia are developed for mining and food growing. That would be dependant on how well the governments drought proof central and rural Australia.

pete98, you might want to look at books like "Advance Australia Where?" for additional content regarding Australia's future.

What Australia.?

Non-existent as we know it today. Not that there is much of us left today. We live in a fools paradise, run by creeps who are selling us off to the highest bidder.

In 20 years? Wholly owned by China. Assuming Indonesia doesn't get us first.
Sad.

Good luck with that look to the future Heartless felon.
Love your optimism.

I sincerely hope I'm not here on 20 years. So?
Guess that makes me a pessimist.

Don't forget our jobs are going over seas to India and China.

In 20 years don't bother studying engineering, well maybe civil as for the rest it will all be overseas as far as I can tell at this going rate.

1.  Automotive - dead
2. Manufacturing - dead
3. Oil & Gas dead
4. Mining - dead

I guess we'll end up like Greece a hospitality state.
