HMAS Hobart AW Destroyer launched
May 23rd, 2015 at 6:59pm

I see that the mob whom the Government "wouldn't trust to build a canoe" is launching HMAS Hobart the new AAW Destroyer in Adelaide today.   The programme may be two years late and over a billion dollars overbudget but she is the biggest ship we've launched in a long, long time in Australia and we should be proud of that.

Someone said we could not judge a person's Aboriginality on their skin colour.  Why isn't that applied in the matter of Pascoe?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I wonder about such criticisms, I really do.  Knowing how hard it is to project manage big projects are, I'm often surprised that they've even managed it get it onto the ship lift for the launch.

If they brought it in on time and budget, considering it was only the second type of ship they've done and the first surface one, I'd have been rather surprised.

The stop-start nature of Australian naval ship building hasn't helped the issue of this project, one bit.   I blame the government and its politics and the ADF and it's inability to say, "No!" For any cost over-run...  Roll Eyes

At least the have an excuse for being sub-optimal ship builders.  Angry

If they can't do it in a reasonable time frame at a reasonable cost, then get someone who can.

So the government you "blame" would be Labor right?

The seven dwarfs could do a better job, on time, within budget!

And the Liberal Howard Government that preceded it by 10 years and the ALP before that.  None have been innocent in this regard.
