More like a Barque. Schooners are not usually square rigged. I can see fore and aft sails on the after mast.

She is a three masted barque under lower topsails, fore course and staysails. The much reduced sail area is probably due to a strong gale having recently abated. It looks similar to photos taken of the old tea clipper Thermopylae when she was under the Canadian flag.

So it's also unlikely that it was anywhere near the equator when the picture was taken.  Grin

Could be in the Bight for all I know. There is usually some rough weather around there, and you know what they say?

I thought it was more a case of too many schooners...

"OK, Sir.. now sail along the White Line while holding your index finger on your nose and looking at the sails...."

When it comes to tying off the rat-lines, this barque is worse than the bight taken on a rope.....
