I realise it's not my call Herb but I'd be going for an eye examination at OPSM (it's bulk billed)........they can give you a referral to a cataract surgeon who would confirm, or refute, the 4 year time frame and would explain your options for surgery. In terms of urgency, I've certainly heard of 2 year time frames, but never 4. If the public hospital waiting time is 2 years where you live, perhaps you'll be advised to book in now.
Croikey. Thanks for that, Alinta - that's very kind of you. I haven't been looking forward to the Clash of Wills between me and this money-grubbing creature.
I wouldn't mind if these specialists told me I have a choice between the public system and their private surgeries - but they never give a hint that there's a cost-free alternative to what they're offering at a cost of thousands of dollars.
THAT's what annoys me about them. They pretend there's
no alternative except to become a patient of theirs at a cost of
thousands of dollars - hoping that in our ignorance we don't realise there's a public hospital system that will do these expensive jobs for nothing.
How many Little Old Ladies and such are being suckered into their money-hungry clutches each year? It's a scandal, but the politicians don't want to touch it because
once again it would involve Ethnic Voting Blocs and charges of 'racism'.
I'll follow your advice, Alinta - and thank you again.
