5 Terrorists arrested in Melbourne

Five arrested over alleged Vic terror plot

Five men have been arrested in Melbourne over an alleged terror plot targeting police officers.

Melbourne Joint Counter Terrorism team officers executed seven warrants in the city's south-east on Saturday morning.

Two 18-year-olds, from Hallam and Hampton Park, have been arrested in relation to terrorism offences.

'It is alleged the men were undertaking preparations for planning a terrorist act in Australia, which included targeting police officers,' Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police said in a statement.

An 18-year-old from Narre Warren was arrested on weapons offences while two other Narre Warren men, aged 18 and 19, are in custody and assisting police.

Searches are continuing at properties in the area and police say investigations are ongoing.

Five men arrested in counter terrorism operation

Operation Rising has resulted in the execution of seven search warrants in the South Eastern Metropolitan area and the arrest of five men.

It is alleged the men were undertaking preparations for planning a terrorist act in Australia, which included targeting police officers.
As part of the operation a third man, an 18-year-old from Narre Warren, has been arrested in relation to weapons offences.
Two men, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old both from Narre Warren, are also in custody assisting police with enquiries.
Searches are continuing at several addresses in the South Eastern Metropolitan area.
Investigations are ongoing.
