NSW election 2015: Greens hopeful of victory in Sydney seats Balmain and Newtown and north coast seats Ballina and Lismore
The Greens could increase their presence in the New South Wales Lower House significantly after polling strongly in two Sydney seats and two in the state's north.
The party had just one MP in the Lower House before the election: Jamie Parker in the inner-Sydney seat of Balmain.
Mr Parker is expected to hold on to the seat, and Greens candidate Jenny Leong has claimed victory in the neighbouring seat of Newtown.
She defeated Labor frontbencher Penny Sharpe, who has served in the Upper House since 2005, to win the newly created seat.
Greens candidates also have a strong chance of seizing the seats of Ballina and Lismore, on the state's north coast from the National Party.
The National Party has been nervous about the prospect of an anti-coal seam gas backlash in the region.
ABC election analyst Antony Green said the Nationals had almost certainly lost Ballina.
"At this stage, if the count goes as predicted there, the Labor Party wins it," he said.
"If not, the Greens win it.
"Lismore, next door, has got exactly the same position."
