Another very bad PC crash
Mar 19th, 2015 at 10:34am

I've spent over 2 hours trying to connect to the internet.

My System Restore function had been bombed. There were no restore points.

Wasn't able to boot-up in Safe Mode. Still can't.

My Rescue Disc did bugger-all by way of repair.

My Windows 7 Pre-installation CD came up with nothing I could use to repair the system.

'Troubleshooting' was a joke (isn't it always?)

The people I bought the PC off with its Windows 7 OS gave me a CD titled 'Pre-installation Disc'. I asked why I don't get the original full version CD - and was told this one was just as good. I think that's BS. They just didn't want me to do my own repairs and do them out of business.

I'm now looking to download the full version Windows 7 Home Premium in the hopes it will do the repairs job that this 'pre-installation' CD refuses to do.

The installation site is not accepting my Product Key.

Why am I not surprised there's a problem? (Answer: Because there's always a 'problem').

Finally got the right Product Key.

Result?

And then they wonder why people resort to pirated software ...

Orchid!

Here's a teeny-weeny bit of hope ... maybe.

link

But ... uh-oh..

"However, entering a product key is mandatory. Unfortunately, only retail product keys will work. For users of OEM or System Builder (SB) licenses, the disk images are out of reach".

That puts an end to that.

That'll be the day!

Looks like I might scrub my hard drive of Windows 7 and re-install Windows XP with the proper retail full version of the OS that I still have - not some OEM crap.

If you have the key, go here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery put your key in and it should let you download the right version for your key.

If it works: You're a God.

If it craps out: You're a sod.

Agreed?  Tongue

*******

'SERVER NOT FOUND'

Why am I not surprised? Answer: Because ... ditto... ditto ... bloody ditto.

***

I was at this website 3 hours ago. Entered my Product Key ... and was told it was 'Unsupported' because it's an OEM version (Pre-installation version).

My Odyssey continues ....
