Is there any interest in an ozpolitics meet up.

I'm happy to organise one in Sydney. Would love to have some of these discussions over a beer. Some of my best mates are right wingers, not all of them compassionate liberals.

I'd certainly make my way to Adelaide if Longy was organising one.

Like discussing feminism with feminists - a drink and discussion over a beer gets both sides, deeply immured in theory, to see that the other is human after all, and allows both sides to see that the personal injury sustained by both sides means that you simply cannot approach real issues in a broad scattergun way.

Sydney would be OK....  just not on a weekend when I'm working - and I love Guinness, so an Irish bar is fine...

I've attended a couple of PA things like this.  I am a tad ambivalent  about them, and especially what comes out of them. I think the negatives outweigh the positives,  because inevitably, it encourages real life tribalism at least, and, at worst, provides the idiots with an ideal stalking environment.   SSSF used to refer to them as 'Puds' and while it was explained to me, I never really understood the term.

I smile when I reminisce about one such PA meet which occurred.   I did not go....but I really was tempted to send one of my mates.  I'm not a midget by any means, but this guy was of Hulk proportion.  He was ready to go....I had briefed him  on all the questions he was likely to have to deal with.........but I chickened out.  It would have been a great laugh.......after the event.

Pick a date when you'll be in Sydney and I'll promote it as best I can.

Think about inclusiveness. Not everyone is going to feel comfortable in a place that serves alcohol. The Lindt Cafe would make the Muslim members feel more welcome. Or we could just have it at your place.

I never talk politics to people in real life only on here, I believe whats said on the board stays on the board and would have no problems with anyone here, I'm sure they all would be kinder and gentler in real life, I know I am 

As far as the psycho angle go's I have seen other board fights break out of the internet and onto the streets, one example being a posters posts being sent to their work, another one being private messages printed and distributed to a club a member was in so some people really do take this sh!t far too seriously LOL

Most people I deal with professionally just assume that I would have to be a Liberal supporter, I have been on the inside of a few serious Lib discussions on the odd occasion. One of the reasons I don't trust them so much.
