If the police did nothing and more hostages were killed they would be damned.  Damned if they did or damned if they didn't.

We are relatively new to situations like this and it's obviously easy for us all to sit back and read the headlines and make our rash judgments but the reality of living these situations is entirely something different and judgment calls have to be made by those at the scene on the spur of the moment. 

It was a very unfortunate and sad thing to happen but when it comes down to the bottom line there is only one person to blame and that is Monis.

Either way, it suggests that police may have acted recklessly by firing into the cafe when they did not have a clear shot.

Firing into a cafe full of people without a clear shot is very likely to put life in danger.

THE man who died in police custody after being tasered by police had been “mixing with the wrong crowd” but was trying to get his life back on track, his devastated brother says.
Kevin Norris, 38, died in police custody after being tasered by officers at a McDonald’s restaurant in Bowral in New South Wales’ Southern Highlands.
Police were called to the fast food restaurant shortly before 9.30pm on Sunday after Mr Norris claimed he had been attacked and then became engaged in a confrontation with officers.
He was arrested and taken to Bowral Police Station where he died a short time later.
“He had problems his whole life, mixing with the wrong crowd,” an emotional David Norris, 32, said.
“But a couple of years ago he started getting his life back on track and doing well for himself.” “He was working every day, got a licence, got his first car.” He said his big brother had just moved to Mittagong from Gunning, about 130km away, to be with his girlfriend.

A VIDEO has emerged of a distraught US police officer breaking down moments after he shot an unarmed suspect three times.
Montana police officer Grant Morrison killed Richard Ramirez, 38, in April last year after he thought he saw Ramirez reach for a gun.
Ramirez was high on methamphetamine at the time and was riding in the back seat of a car.
In video evidence shown during a two-day inquest, the officer asks Ramirez to raise his hands six times before he opens fire.
“I knew in that moment, which later was determined to be untrue, but I knew in that moment he was reaching for a gun,” Morrison said in his coroner’s court testimony.
“I couldn’t take that risk ... I wanted to see my son grow up.”
Last week video emerged showing Morrison immediately after the shooting being comforted by his fellow officers. A dashcam on an officer’s car shows Morrison walking towards the vehicle before appearing to collapsing just off the screen.

ideo did not show Ramirez’s actions at the time but Morrison told a coroner’s jury at Yellowstone County Courthouse that the man dropped his left hand to his side, which was out of his view, and “started to jiggle it up and down”.
Two bags containing a small amount of methamphetamine and a syringe were later found near where Ramirez had been sitting.
The coroner’s jury ruled last week that his death was a noncriminal, justifiable homicide. Morrison, who was also cleared of all wrongdoing in another shooting in 2013, was found to be justified in his actions.

But it has since emerged that Mrs Dawson, 37, died after she was hit by bullet fragments from a police ­weapon.

State government ministers have reportedly raised concerns amid claims they were misled by NSW's top cops when they were briefed about bullets fired by Lindt Cafe gunman Man Haron Monis.

After the siege Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn reportedly left cabinet members believing hostages Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson were killed by Monis, reports News Corp.

A source has claimed that the high ranking police officer used words to the effect: “Do not be surprised if there were no police bullets in anyone.”

It is also being reported by Fairfax media that tensions are rising within the NSW Police force over the strategy they should have used on the day of the siege.

The police waited for hours and senior officers drew up a "direct action" plan, under which they would storm the cafe and take Monis by surprise.

Hours into the siege the plan was 'overruled by a command decision' reports Fairfax when Monis fired his first shot into the ceiling at 2.03am after six of the hostages escaped from the cafe.

Monis executed Lindt Cafe manager Tory Johnson about 2.10am and NSW Police immediately stormed the cafe and through a blaze of gunfire they killed Monis.

It is understood two of the bullets fired by police ricocheted and hit Mrs Dawson, a mother-of-three and well respected lawyer, tragically killing her.

Fairfax media reports that multiple police sources have said Ms Dawson, 38, was struck by police fire that was not a direct shot and possibly a ricochet, when Tactical Operations Unit officers stormed the cafe just after 2am on December 16.

Monis had just executed another of the hostages, cafe manager Tori Johnson, at close range, and was killed in the shoot-out.

The circumstances surrounding the 16-hour Martin Place siege is still the subject of a critical incident investigation by the homicide squad.

This is just a story to have a story on a slow news day. Government misled over what, at the time of the incident there would have been information flying around and the police would not have had any idea that Dawson was hit by a ricochet until the autopsy. Preliminary reports are always going to contain incorrect information because of the nature of preliminary reports is to release information as it happens.

You could jump and down making a case for the government being misled but its all just for show.

Gunshot wounds and bullet wounds are one and the same thing. However shotgun wounds, look very different, also would depend on what shot being used by the gunman. Police may also have used a shotgun, 9mm MP5 is also good at that distance. So we say nothing until someone releases the actual autopsy report and we say nothing and not speculate until the enquiry is concluded. However the media, as per usual make up stories to peddle as news when times are slow.

The most disgusting thing about this case was the politicians trying to make political mileage out of it. Abbott rushed out making all sorts of erroneous statements before the dust had settled. Yes Abbott was full of praise for the police then wasn't he?

Now when we find a police bullet killed at least 2 out of 3 Abbott is nowhere to be seen.

Abbott is like a parasite trying to soak up the glory of others, then he is first to go into hiding when the going gets tough.

Speaking of hiding, will we get to see Abbott before the QLD election?

But the wounds are different. Shotgun leaves a lot of small circle holes. Bullet will be just one large hole for the entry wound usually.

I would think that police and paramedics would know the difference.

AN inquest into the deaths of Sydney siege victims Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson has begun this morning at the NSW Coroners Court.
State Coroner Michael Barnes gave an opening speech about the inquest saying: “Rarely have such horrifying events unfolded so publicly.”
Mr Barnes said that the court woudl need to rely on reason and to “keep our emotions in check”.
He also noted that ongoing security concerns may have to take precedence over the public interest in knowing what happened during the Lindt Cafe attack.
Extra resources have been made available to the Coroners Court so that other matters are not impacted by the inquest into the siege being brought forward.
No witnesses will be called today and John O’Brien was the only former hostage who attended.
No members of Ms Dawson’s family were at Glebe Coroner’s court for the opening day on Thursday, but members of Mr Johnson’s family were present.
