Crumbed fish, vegetables, some tomato sauce. Washed down with some hydralite. Planning on a half chicken combo, with peas and gravy from Red Rooster, later tonight.

Apparently, freezing sausages in the freezer for a month and then thawing them out to finally use, the sausages do not stay good for long. I thawed the sausages out in the fridge overnight. The first two sausages were quite alright. But the last six were starting to taste a bit off. Expiry dates seem to include meats that have been frozen. Some things you should have learnt from 25 years ago.

Tonight is going to be a bit special.

We got some direct from farm chicken, not the BS supermarket freerange stuff but proper walking bird.

It's been in a salt brine over night then in the oven on super low for 3 hours with a lemon inside.

You take it out, let it cool for 30 mins, rub it down with butter then back in the oven for 20 mins to brown. The skin will be like crackling.

I'm going to fry some blanched brussel sprouts in the pan dripping.

The only trouble with these farm chickens is they're half the size of a supermarket one, but the taste is incredible.  Eating in about 10....nom nom nom.

Fish soup.

Haggis with whisky mayo on another day, perhaps...

In the New York Times, the celebrated journalist Maureen Dowd describes Crieff as ‘a sleepy town in Scotland’. Well. There speaks a woman who has never been in the Quaich on a Friday night when the homemade haggis baws with whisky mayo are on special offer and Duncan has come down from Ochtertyre with ‘the fire o’ the deil in ma loins’. A fire, I might add, that no amount of whisky mayo could ever douse. It’s all happening there, Maureen!

Home made chicken soup. I bought a whole cooked chicken from woolworths for $9. Used half of it, the other half will be used for something else. removed skin and bones, 1 can lentils, 1 can chickpeas, 1 cup dried soup mix, 1 cup frozen peas, 3 large potatoes, chopped. Assorted spices, salt, pepper and couple of spoonfuls sambal olek. Get about 10 servings from this, low fat , low carb, high protein.

Wifey made chicken soup today, whole farm chicken boiled up. I was still hungry coz I did a Blue Mts trail run today and burned a zillion calories so chased it down with a steak. Smiley

I can't eat my house. My income is actually pretty modest and I also scab around for good prices and luckily have some great options.

Coles rump for $30kg?

I buy meat here. You grab a jacket at the door and walk into the freezer.
Whole rump caps for $13/kg

Bit far for me atm, I dont have those options near me. Ironically, I live near cattle farms but have to travel 30 ks to shop for meat  without taking out a mortgage.

City gets the best of everything at the best price, there's a couple of similar meat places like that. I've actually seen their rump caps as low as $9/kg. Not the highest grade but it's still better than Coles.

Every time I'm outside the city and have to buy veggies, the quality is so far below what I'm used to it's not funny.
