Should Abbott Sack Philip Ruddock?
Dec 18th, 2014 at 12:33pm

Is anyone else offended by the thought that the person who was the immigration minister who let Man Monis into the country and gave him an asylum visa despite warnings from Iran that he was a violent maniac gets to continue to be a member of the government drawing a huge salary and all the perks that go with it?

As the government's chief whip, Ruddock earns 26% extra above the base mp salary.

Disgusting!

Shouldn't there be an inquiry into how much Ruddock knew about the Iranian Government's warnings?

Abbott promised no tax hikes & no cuts to the ABC

There's a 'budget emergency', so we will give $9 billion to the Reserve Bank, spend $12 billion on some dubious jets, $2 billion to bomb Iraq, etc.

Nothing new there.  No care taken and no responsibility... hand him the Katana and let him seek honourable way out...

Depends...was Ruddock the immigration minister in 1996 when this idiot arrived here?

'Twas in the OP, but here goes from elsewhere.....

During the Howard Government (1996–2007), Ruddock served continuously in the Coalition Ministry, taking on various portfolios, most notably those of Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs from 1996 until 2003

Yes he was. Roddock was also immigration minister when the Iranians sent warnings about Monis in 2000. He was also immigration minister when Monis was awarded his asylum visa in 2001.

Yes.

More importantly, though, he was the immigration minister when he was granted political asylum.

Philip Ruddock would have taken advice and acted like any other immigration minister who was faced with a similar predicament.....Those on the right have criticised the ALP for allowing refugees into the country although most have been no problem every time an individual of ethnic origins does something heinous both sides rush to point the finger flaming the issue and igniting racial tension!!!

There are disturbed individuals living in our society who pose a risk and need to be monitored by law enforcement but that is expensive and in most cases unnecessary.....If you want to lay blame look at yourselves and the hysteria you are creating over the act of one mad man!!!

And did the Australian Government ever listen to any 'warnings' Iran has sent??? Someone mentioned the extradition request from Iran, but Australia does NOT have an extradition treaty with Iran, so why would we listen?

Yeah, we should take more notice of the Iranians, what with them being beacons of peace and justice and goodness in their hearts and all, right?

And under that idea, Peter Garrett and Wayne Swann should both have been sacked too ( not to mention Craig Thomson)

Noe it's NOT.
Besides, IF the Government HAD...Labor and the Greens would have spent ages screaming about sending a 'poor innocent man' back to be tortured and killed by the 'evil Iranian' Government.
