the difference is rather obvious. we have NO CHANCE of ever hosting the world cup and it was $45M completely wasted. But the Olympics are a different matter. we have hosted it twice to great acclaim. It was always a good chance but the world cup is a ZERO CHANCE.

The difference between socialism and communism, according to Marx, is that in socialism the state takes control of the means of production, and communism was meant to be the next step; that the state would wither away and people would produce according to their needs and abilities. For example, a fisherman would produce fishing gear and then spend his days fishing etc. It's a romantic view of life where each person lives according to what skills they have and then spend the rest of their time being leisurely. State run industry (socialism) was only a temporary step for Marx to reach communism.
