2014 50/50 v South Africa. Game 1.

Each of those blokes would have known they hit the bloody ball.  No walk ~ initial call ~ not out.....on referral ~ OUT!  Wankers.

To walk or not to walk, that is the question.....The referral system means the players have the opportunity to question umpires decisions when they get it wrong.....The fielding side obviously were not confident enough to refer the decision so it would be hard to criticise the umpires who must decide in real time from 22 meters away.....If we did not have the referral system it would put more onus of players to walk but it is up to the umpire to give the player out or not out and it can work both ways.....Most players do not walk anymore and it is a rare person who puts sportsmanship above winning....This is the sign of the times Aussie were winning is everything!!!

Sad Sad Sad

We are leading the one dayers in the current comp.

2 - 1.

Michael Clarke is out, he is too old and injured .
Should 'retire', but won't.

Is this the rebound of our cricket team ?

Yes, I do believe we have a new bunch of talented players moving through and ready to take up duties in the Australian team. This being at test and one-day level. The big bash series should ensure that we have enough 20/20 players, too.

The problem being that had the last batsman been given out in the second game, we would have had a tie. The last two batsmen were injured. The MCG curse would still be ongoing.

Coulter Nile was injured but Australia still has Stark in the shed if needed.....Requiring only 2 runs when Smith was dismissed it is probable that Coulter Nile would have also batted if required.....Great win by Australia and well deserved by outplaying South Africa again!!!

M Clarke was shielded from grade cricket bowling at the expense of his team and the game.
He agreed to it.

Quote:
AUSTRALIAN captain Michael Clarke became the unwitting victim on Saturday as his bid to play in the first Test against India took a bizarre and controversial twist.

It turned a regular day of grade cricket into a game of Chinese whispers as Western Suburbs — Clarke’s club — captain Jeff Cook declared his team’s innings at 0-17 against Parramatta at Kings Oval.

It led to claims that Cook acted outside the spirit of cricket and there was talk of an official investigation as it came to light that the Western Suburbs skipper had made the declaration in a bid to give Clarke batting time next Saturday in a bid to prove his fitness for the first Test.

“All I wanted to do was the best for Michael Clarke and Australia,” Cook said.

In a statement from NSW Cricket, chief executive Andrew Jones said: “We understand Wests may have taken this action to increase the probability of Australian captain Michael Clarke batting in the second week of the game.

“While Cricket NSW and the Sydney Cricket Association are conscious of the broader interest of Australian cricket, and appreciate the thinking behind this gesture, we are also conscious of the need to main the integrity of the Sydney Grade competition.

“Consequently we will investigate the full facts and evaluate Wests’ actions at the conclusion of the round.”

With the selectors calling on the Australian captain to prove his fitness before the opening Test against at the Gabba, starting on December 4, by batting in the current grade round, Western Suburbs tried to give him a week’s grace by bowling yesterday.

Clarke, who has been hampered by a hamstring tear sustained the summer’s opening one-day international against South Africa, was no chance of playing yesterday.
However, he remains hopeful of taking the field against Parramatta at Old Kings this Saturday.

The problem for Cook and his Western Suburbs team came when they lost the toss and Parramatta decided to send them in.

With Clarke nominated for only the second day of the match, they closed their innings after a handful of overs.

That forced Parramatta to bat and potentially give Clarke the opportunity to bat in his team’s second innings and stake his claim for the Test.

Then to make matters even more confusing, Parramatta decided to close their own innings at 2-140 midway through the afternoon.

Cook said he had told Parramatta of his plans before the toss in the hope they would come to the party and give Clarke an opportunity to push his Test claims on the second day.

“I stand by what I wanted to do,” Cook said. “I might have sacrificed six first-innings points, but it would be fantastic for cricket if 2000 kids turned up to watch Michael try to prove a point to the Australian selectors.”

Parramatta president Ron Wright said there was never any agreement between the clubs to let Clarke bat next week and added that it wouldn’t have been within the spirit of cricket if there was.

While Clarke is now in line to have a hit this Saturday, Test vice-captain Brad Haddin, who is coming back from a serious shoulder injury, won’t be as lucky as his club Northern Districts batted yesterday against Randwick-Petersham at Petersham Oval.

At this stage, Cricket Australia have no intention of getting involved in the dispute.

The country’s governing body will let Cricket NSW conduct the investigation without interference.

CA insist they will continue to follow the advice of the team’s physiotherapist Alex Kountouris, who last week stated that Clarke’s hamstring injury is “not that dramatic that he’s going to miss the whole summer”.

Their priority is to see Clarke up and running as soon as possible.

If Clarke was not fit he should not have been selected at the expense of the team.....Whilst I want Clarke to be fit for the first test I think the Western Suburbs players who most likely never play for Australia deserve have their competition and best interests respected above one player no matter who it is.....Clarke will lose respect for putting himself first, like these other blokes and their competition don't matter!!!

In competition both sides are meant to try to win.
That is why people compete.

this is fundamentally deeply flawed

ah, apparently they have picked an injured aging untested M. Clarke .....

Quote:
THE selection of an in-doubt Michael Clarke for the first Test in Brisbane exposes a lack of depth in Australian cricket, says Robert Craddock.

Where are the young batsmen who could have replaced Clarke?

Is Steve Smith the only batsman of real quality trickling through the development system?

And where are the young spin bowlers?

Poor selecting.

They are now looking at playing Clarke in the PMX1 match against India which will exclude him from the grade fixture altogether.....Cricket Australia has done a disservice to the grass roots of the sport.....Very poor form indeed!!!

I think Aussies can be bad sports but not as bad as some.....England using mints to shine the ball in the 2005 Ashes series was cheating at its worst!!!
