Gamer's thread
Nov 4th, 2014 at 6:04pm

Not sure if it would need it's own forum or just a thread might do it....

Do any esteemed Oz Pol posters use their computer's (or perhaps another platform) for playing games, apart from the word games on the forum that is?

I am a World of Warcraft participant, among other games. That would probably be the number one for now, although it can be a bit of a time sink, not dissimilar to a forum I suspect in some ways.

So, who plays what, if anything?

No, not really, however, I was also not suggesting that WoW is the only game one can play whilst living life....

So big raid tonight, final boss in the game, well at least until the next Xpac hits the monitor.

Not sure if we will get it down tonight, already had a couple of goes over the weekend. I like complexity though, and this is one hell of a complex little task.

Have a good night everyone, I know I will be even with the rain that just started to bucket down.... maybe it's a sign, yikes....

Raven Enjoyed the Mass Effect trilogy and the Legend of Zelda games.

For straight forward destructive and outrageous fun the Saints Row series is a good laugh.

Currently though Raven has gone back and is playing the Assassins Creed games from the start.

It comes in all versions not sure about ps3 - I got PC as we do not currently have a recent games platform.

It has got mixed reviews - it is set with Ripley's daughter as the character and it is a strategy game about avoiding the predator and using the stuff found in the game. Not sure how I will like it but it is my daughter asked for it.

ME trilogy was da bomb. Shame about how ME3 ended, tho. What colour magic spacedust did you choose?

Speaking of RPGs, any Morrowind or Deus Ex fans out there?
There's a new DX mod in the making called DX:Revision. Looks awesome.

And Morrowind has some amazing mods too. Great game - shame about the sequels.

Having grown up with games, I kind of got quite bored with them by the end of high school.  Having recently got back into them I have had a lot of great experiences with games that really work to make you think and involve the player in the mix rather than just being a spectator.

Some good examples of this that have left me thinking about them long after I finish them are:

the original Bioshock (the nature of choice, and a deconstruction of Objectivism)
the Stanley Parable (role of the player in games, and actually very funny)
Spec Ops: the Line (not even going to spoil a thing here, but damn)
Papers Please (Corruption and bureaucracy... trust me its better than it sounds!)
Far Cry 3 (human nature)

Morrowind is awesome.  I gave it another shot recently and it has aged not too badly except for some obnoxious mechanics.

A lot of things I could say about Papers Please, but it certainly wasn't a "fun" experience for me.  Kind of why I liked it so much I think.

Except Jorji, he was the man.

D'oh, my bad mate. I had forgotten about him to be honest it has been quite a while since my PA days.

Fear not though, I am pretty diligent with regard to managing my stuff as it were, but thanks for the mention.

I started 30 years ago with the old 'text adventure' games. First PC game was the original Wolfenstein. Then DOOM. Since then I've played most genres, love Deus Ex, Maz Payne, Half Life series, Star Wars 1st-person shooters, the Quake series, Medal of Honor series, TOCA Touring Cars and sequels, Need for Speed series etc etc.

Currently playing Diablo II: Lords of Destruction, Half Life: Opposing Force and Quake 4.

These ↓↓ are all PC games, dating back to the early 1990s. Then there's the Commodore
C64 and Amiga 500 stuff, and the PS1/PS2 games (not shown).

Raven agrees the ending was disappointing. Although they are currently working on a new ME game. Interesting to see how it turns out.

So, been going pretty hard core on new WoW expansion.

Think this will be my last expansion though. That said, the latest one is not too shabby so far, early days though.

Well, it is a bit buggy but there are some pretty massive changes, so I am sure it would be quite easy to miss some code errors etc. So, apart from a few bugs here and there, yep, pretty good expac in my opinion.

Remains to be seen how raiding looks.

Raid team plus extras back together over last week and weekend.

Took to the first new raid. Night one was bugged out, so we got a boss down, then it all turned to fecal matter.

Weekend went better though. Pretty tough so far, although, apart from about 8 or so hardcore dudes who have already geared, most of us were either slightly under geared, or just on the right level (which = challenging fight).

We have first three bosses nailed though.

Wall has now been hit til a few more of us are geared better (self included,  Cheesy).

I have been reading the thread, about the other games, I have missed soooooo many titles. Not to worry though, will either carry on with what I am doing, or someday, look back here and try a few of them.

I think WoW suits me because I can be fairly methodical in my approach to getting stuff done. That seems to work well in the WoW world.

Anyway, thanks all for your input here, I wasn't sure if it would get any response at all TBH.

Off now, early start on the morrow.

Yes, I'm afraid so. I didn't actually fid it that bad, but it was nothing like as good as the first one.
