Boys as young as six have been filmed at a religious youth group meeting in Sydney's south-west chanting extremist Islamic views and calling for US President Barack Obama to "go to hell".

In the video, uncovered by Channel Seven, four boys said to be aged six to 13 are shown performing on a stage as "Soldiers of Khilafa" or soldiers of the caliphate, waving flags and also chanting for the head of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The footage, which has been described by government ministers as "disturbing" and "sickening", shows a six-year-old boy take the microphone and pronounce: "You're never too young to be a Soldier for Khilafa."

The children promise to die fighting to end democracy in Australia, replacing it with a caliphate ruled by Islamic law, Seven claims.

The footage was said to have been filmed at a meeting of the Muslim Youth Project in Lakemba in September last year. Another meeting of the group is scheduled for this weekend.

One of the men shown in the footage leading the chant is Bilal Merhi, a senior figure in the radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir, a fundamentalist group that calls for the establishment of a caliphate stretching from the Middle East to Indonesia.

NSW Community Services Minister Gabrielle Upton told Channel Seven that her department and the police were investigating the footage.

"These are disturbing and shocking images and they do raise concerns about the welfare of the four young boys who are identified in the video," she said.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison described the footage as "ugly", "sickening" and "absolutely disturbing".

"It's one thing for these peddlers of vicious hate to do that themselves, which is appalling enough, but to recruit children into such a sickening display I think appalls all Australians of all religions, rightly," he told Channel Seven.

The footage comes as it was revealed last week that at least two more young Muslim men from south-western Sydney had been stopped from travelling overseas to join foreign fighters by members of their own communities.

One young man was trying to book a one-way ticket to the Middle East, raising suspicions with the travel agent. The agent contacted the man's father, who was then able to intervene.

Another teenager had been spending a lot of time on the internet and, when his father investigated, he found propaganda about going to fight in Syria. The boy's father organised counselling for him.

Bankstown boy Abdullah Elmir, 17, has been dubbed the "Ginger Jihadi" after running away from his family in Australia in June to join the Islamic State terrorist group in Syria.

The boy has since appeared in YouTube clips alongside IS fighters, threatening Prime Minister Tony Abbott and any nation that stands in the way of the group.

Authorities are seeking to confirm reports emerging on Wednesday that Australian terrorist Mohammad Ali Baryalei has been killed in Syria.

The former Kings Cross bouncer and part-time actor has been working for IS on the Turkey-Syria border, receiving new fighters from Australia and facilitating their passage into Syria to join terrorist groups.
