By all accounts, she was 9 when Muhammed had sex with her.

No not "all accounts" at all:

Quote:
Some traditional sources disagree. Ibn Hisham wrote in his biography of Muhammad that she may have been ten years old at the consummation.[6] Ibn Khallikan, as well as Ibn Sa'd al-Baghdadi citing Hisham ibn Urwah, record that she was nine years old at marriage, and twelve at consummation

9, 12 - either way, still appalling. It's really indefensible in this day and age, isn't it Gandy?

Yes you should have.

Absurd as it is to think that a 4th hand account of what someone said about themselves 200 years prior could be of questionable accuracy - or that a person living in the illiterate backwaters of the 7th century deserts of arabia might not know their own age...

Good point. Muhammed and his merry band obviously didn't think it mattered much whether she had hit puberty or double digits. And we all know females lie about their age, don't we?

Yes, just over 12 months ago.  On 10/13/13 at 19:58:08 in fact.  Which it appears, predates your posting on the idea.   Yet, despite your supposed careful monitoring of everything Brian posts, you missed, or did you?   Grin  Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy

Couldn't agree more.  However, does that mean that their co-religionists are responsible for their antics?  Moreover, should they be blamed for those antics, despite often not even being on the same continent?   Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Grin Grin

If you accept (as final and perfect) the doctrine quoted by muslim terrorists as their justification, you accept the terrorism / atrocities caused by this doctrine.

cue: apologists to quote the Old Testament, which which in turn will be refuted by verses in the New Testament.

I think you use Moses to signify wisdom, sagacity, and power. The sort of awesome Godly power used to perform feats like parting the Red Sea and leading a nation out of slavery. You want the prestige that comes from a Biblical prophet, and who better than one of the best?

In leading a nation of desert wanderers, Moses enforced some of the harshest laws in human history. They were, of course, harsh times, but many of the laws were not about security or survival, but religious dictate.

The Jews were a nation and a religion. Blasphemy, worshipping "false idols" and not observing the Sabbath were all punishable by death by stoning. These were the laws of Moses, outlined in the Book of Leviticus.

And yes, you also use Moses because you believe in the above principles. You believe in religious discipline, and you believe in strong laws.

Seeing you answered with a question, I hope you don’t mind me answering for you.
