Of course.

Do you really believe people would continue to swim at West Australia's beaches if there was an annual roll-call of people being shredded by toothy sharks?

I remember Fraser Island when the brumbies ran wild on the island and the dingos had plenty to eat. There was never any problems then and dingos were not considered a tourist attraction as they are today.

Some things stick in the mind's eye and I can still see the brumbies galloping along the beach.

I hate to say it but when they decided the brumbies had to go then they should have also removed the dingos.  Neither were or are native to the island.

Not always. They'll go for small children as a food source just like some of our dangerous breed of dogs do.

Wrong.

Anyone looking weak, small, injured, alone, helpless, will attract canines as a pack looking for a likely meal.

Even cowardly coyotes will work up the courage to start nipping at you with increasing ferocity if you happen to be trapped in the wilderness by an upturned car or beach-buggy, or whatever. I've seen the doco.

for goodness sake.. do you really thing Fraser Island would a be a holiday resort if the dingoes were starved and killed the visitors.??.. get real herb..

the people were jogging legs moving fast the animals thought that looks like fun..

the animal is not at fault

as for coyotes being cowardly that is so wrong...like the vultures we need them they clean up the garbage that is left by the fat cats....without them the world would be one great bag of maggots..

the only cowards I know of are the human ones.

YOU are the coward. If your ancestors didn't fight of bears and wolves etc. they wouldn't have survived and you wouldn't even be alive today. You are an environmental extremist and you wouldn't stand a chance to survive in nature, if you were forced too.  Grin Grin Grin Watching nature documentaries  on TV from your dry sofa in an urbanized area while drinking your coffee, right?   Grin

Will be fun when the world wide economy crash is hitting us. You environmental extremists, vegans, animal worshipers and faggots will be running for food. You will be eating insects and grass.....and the remaining pet food that's left in the supermarkets  Grin

No, you aren't supposed to feed them. Yes, there are signs.

For this very reason.

No one was feeding them. They were jogging.

People do feed them. It's caused at least one fatal attack before, and was probably a factor in this one as well.

Not necessarily the case that THEY had food, but the dingoes don't know that...   Sad
So the dingoes got angry because the joggers didn't have any food Kat? Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

If you say so.

I  don't recall either saying or implying any such thing.
It was just a spasticated post that I couldn't help but make a joke out of.

Why, clown?

Get a kick out of laughing inappropriately, do you?

There's a psychiatric term for that.

And the only 'spasticated' (is that even a word?) posts that I've noticed have been yours.

Now be fair. I said transport the dingoes to the mainland outback where they can find plenty of sheep to survive on instead of having to eat babies, kiddies, and women joggers on Fraser Island.  Smiley

I have always said a shark would have to come out of the tap to eat me....same with a croc...

I can read signs and I do my best to obey them...

I saw a movie the other day where the sharks were picked up by a tornado at sea and then dropped onto people where they were going about their business inland.

Always expect the Unexpected, codsie.

Like Michelangelo's statue of David, don't you mean?  Cool

It was worth being arrested for, wasn't it, cods? CONFESS!

That day you reached out and gave Michelangelo's David a boner that cracked the marble.

Killing the Brumbies on Fraser was the right thing to do. There were dingoes on Fraser before Europeans introduced horses and they can get by just fine without them.

Dingoes are wild animals. There will always be some starving to death while they remain wild. We either acknowledge this, or turn the island into a petting zoo full of fat, fly blown dingoes hanging around for a free feed. Believe it or not, some people actually appreciate the wilderness and go there because of that.

It is not their wildness or starvation that makes them attack people. It is nice people feeding them thinking that will somehow help the situation. That is why that idiot lady copped a $40000 fine. Common sense would not do the trick.

Fraser Island a wilderness?  What?  There is are bloody resort, private dwellings, even an airstrip there.  I've spent years racing a trailer sailer there every May Day weekend when  overnight (mid race) about 1500 (+-) drunks play up something chronic at Gary's Anchorage.  Get the dingoes off.  Simple.  No-one goes there to see them, not even you or your fishing mates, freediver.  Sheesh.

I agree.

Repatriate these mutts back to the mainland where they can help keep the feral cat population down. That's a good food source for them.

And there's always the option to re-faunacate Fraser Island with Abos for the American tourist hunting season.  Cool

Nahhhh let the Dingos stay, they are about the only gene pool uncontaminated by domestic dogs and the best way to keep them like that is on an island.

So, who cares?  And exactly how do you know that the local mutts have not been up to a bit of fence jumping?  What value do they add to anything there?

If Fraser Island was really a wilderness as freediver dreams, I'd agree.  But it is not.  It is urbanised.

It's a big Island Aussie, and a small resort. There are thousands of things that are there that people do not specifically go to see. You are wrong about the dingoes though. They are a genuine tourist drawcard. There isn't actually much there for tourists to do, seeing as the beach is dangerous for swimming. Take one thing off the list, and it's a big hit.

Dingoes are not the problem. nice people feeding them is. Get rid of the nice people, not the dingoes.

I personally still get a bit of a thrill when I see a wild dingo, which is pretty rare. Even for me it adds to a trip to Fraser. Though of course it freaks me out a bit when they sneak up behind me while I am fishing.
