'Every day' feral dogs in packs are probably a lot more dangerous.

Not always. They'll go for small children as a food source just like some of our dangerous breed of dogs do.

Wrong.
Anyone looking weak, small, injured, alone, helpless, will attract canines as a pack looking for a likely meal.
Even cowardly coyotes will work up the courage to start nipping at you with increasing ferocity if you happen to be trapped in the wilderness by an upturned car or beach-buggy, or whatever. I've seen the doco.
