I'd agree, and it ties-in with Annie's comment re helicopter parenting, too.

I'm far from being a conspiracy-theorist, but the only things I see that have changed a great

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but...

kat I neither remember all the different counselling and psychoanalysts  they have today.. we had a GP and that was it..and I do not believe we or previous generations suffered from lack of being diagnosed....today its almost an obligation for parents to take their children to a specialist of any kind..

even the schools tell them to go...

little Johnny cant sit still for long.. must have something wrong with him...

children had respect for the teachers, and the rules, and their parents... ok a bit of fear was involved I agree....we had one of my teachers live in the same street whenever we saw her walking down the street.. we immediately stopped running or shouting...it was the same when we saw a copper on the beat...we always felt guilty.....

it didnt do me any harm...now they basically throw stones at them or even let their tyres down..no fear at all...in fact its the opposite teachers and the law are afraid of the kids.....

we are creating monsters and have done so for a long time...

if children are being medicated to save on the work that goes into  "discipline"

then we can only expect more trouble...

a lot of authority has been taken away from parents....they are being watched if a child goes to school and is hungry its the parents fault they dont give them breakfast...

how many of us have b een driven barmy trying to make kids eat in  the morning.. Roll Eyes

yet the parents get the blame...

little johnny is tired falling asleep...its the parents fault..

have they spent hours trying to get little johnny to stay in his bed let alone sleep... Roll Eyes

some kids work well with mum and dad but not all..some do need discipline some even a smack..now and then to get them to cooperate...

but when you are told to back off....then what else can you do?????....

stop the blame game try and work out a plan..that suits each child...
'
every one needs to work together be on the same page...stop pussy footing around some kids...they work out which buttons to push real early.

Good old discipline is now considered harmful and politically incorrect.

Parents no longer have the ability to be responsible for their children, even if they wanted to.

free in my time we also had bad parents.. who let their kids roam and do whatever they wanted....

but today the parents have been told to not do this not do that.. everything a parent does get critised...do scold.. dont scold...it all becomes too hard in the end.. people think.. well you know my kid better than me.. you get on with it..

and I dont blame them..I really dont! being a parent is the hardest job you will ever do...

and there is no time off for good behavior...in some cases it can be down right unrewarding..

Hard to do because certain know-it-alls stick there noses in? If you don't toe the "line" you risk getting your children taken off of you.

Of course there was bad parents back then.. but people need to learn the difference between a smack and a pummel.

Sure they do.  People might say poo on the net, or on talk shows, but they don't have any power over how you raise your kids.

So many people talk about how they are "no longer allowed to discipline their kids" but there isn't any law against it.

Do what you think is right, and let the gossipmongers talk.  They will anyway.

I agree with that to a point, but there are people out there, who cannot mind their own business, and like to get "authorities" involved.

on another thread someone complained about new neighbours..who allowed their children to roam the streets at all hours they would walk into the persons home uninvited the parents would scream and swear at the kids..who sounded as if they were running wild...I suggested dobbing them in to DOCs..just so they could be checked out.. more wasnt going on....like not attending school that sort of thing.. I was howled down for daring to think like that... what is wrong with allowing kids freedom to run the streets..and enter strangers homes.....

in this day and age someone thought it was ok for kids to enter homes of strangers and be sworn at constantly by said parents......

so who knows whats right anymore....I remember reading about Dubbo which went through a terrible time a few years ago because the children were running wild and even setting houses on fire for fun.... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

What is right, in my opinion, is having a reasonable balance. Don't be too harsh, but don't be too soft either.

The problem occurs when those in the do-gooder extremist camps equate a simple smack on the backside as severe child abuse.

I'm not a mother though, so I probably don't have any say. I just observe that children are increasingly "naughty" and teenagers have absolutely no respect whatsoever. They have their "schoolies" parties and trash people's houses, walk the streets like drunken idiots and abuse people. But nobody dare say anything, or else you'll get "How f---ing dare you ruin my schoolies!!!" and as such.

What you experience in early life you carry on into adulthood. Now adults are stupid and have no responsibility, and raise their children to be pretty much the same thing. It's like a disease, but nobody is responsible any more. It's always somebody else's fault.

So in that example you have given me cods, I would advise getting the "authorities" involved, because that is something that shouldn't be able to slide. If kids just walked into my home like that I would probably smack them out  Cheesy Cheesy but who would get in trouble? ME, condemned by the do-gooder extremists because I don't appreciate disrespect and out of control kids infringing on my personal space and property. This is the way the world is going.

And why I'm not having kids  Cheesy Cheesy my three dogs are enough.

No, I don't. I'm not worried about it, as I don't have children and won't be bringing any into the world.

You can only ignore and mind your own business to a certain point -- that is, until you are dragged into things by irritating outside influences. Somebody not raising their children with respect and a few morals can have dire consequences for the future, especially when the numbers are multiplied.

And I don't think a few pills will help the matter either, to be honest.

Yes, there is a lot wrong with it. When I was a kid, children didn't even get pain killers when they were sick. Seriously, I have never had painkillers until I was an adult. Also kids were not supposed to drink coffee in the old days. Nowadays kids are getting loads of caffeine from these rubbish energy drinks. Caffeine, pain killers, anti depressants. Kids are growing up with major substance abuse.

Your parents were idiots then.

Excuse me?  Cheesy My parents were idiots for not loading me up with anti depressants and pain killers? I'm happy for that.
