AND FINALLY, IT'S ALL OVER... FOR NOW.
Oct 15th, 2014 at 10:03pm

Tonight was the last night of my 'Small Engines & Outdoor Power Equipment' Tech course.

Sat two theory exams, passed both (Pumps theory - 27/32, and Servicing Procedures - 38/40).

All six of those who completed the course have passed, and I'm pretty sure I may have come
1st, as my marks have all been in the same range as the above, and the instructors have been
very happy with my prac work and general knowledge of the subject.

Some here no doubt thought I'd fail, and I know one or two probably hoped I would, and any
support from other members has, sadly, been limited to only a few, but all went well anyway.

Al that's left now is TAFE's Graduation Day on Dec 11th.

I would thoroughly recommend these evening/night courses, unreservedly, and in fact I am
thinking of possibly doing another next autumn/winter, depending on which courses they run.

I can, if I wish, do the next level up from the one I've just completed, which will get me into
motorcycle and outboard motor repairs. Since I thoroughly enjoyed this course, would have
the same instructors, and may even have a couple from this course as class-mates, why not?

Bottom-line: You don't need to be unemployed to do these courses, night courses especially
suit those who work during the day but want to up-skill or re-skill. In this case the workshops
are modern and fully-equipped, the instructors know their business, and my fellow-students
were mostly decent people who were genuine about doing well. Sadly some dropped out, for
whatever reason, but you'll always get those.

You could do worse than to at least check your local TAFE out and see what courses may be
available in your area. Again, you do NOT have to be on the dole, anyone can enrol.

Anyway, that's it done. The knockers and mockers (and there have been a few) will have to
find another avenue of attack.

EDIT: This 149 Holden red motor in the workshop at TAFE has been sectioned to show
the apprentice grease-monkeys what happens inside an engine. ↓↓

Bravo, Kat. Taking the next course sounds like an excellent idea, especially since you seem to have enjoyed this one so much and did so well at it.

UPDATE:

Got bored this afternoon, so decided to assemble the 2-stroke project engine into a usable whippa-snippa again.

As obtained, it had no shaft or cutter head, it was a bare motor only. But I had acquired an identical one with a
seized  motor, so I put the good shaft/cutter onto the good project motor. And, bugger me, it went!

Due to the difficulty of holding it down, it wasn't actually started at the course, but the instructor did check it and
gave me a 'pass', so I was fairly optimistic that it would go. I didn't think it would start this easily though.

The only 'teething trouble' was a leaky fuel-line, which was easily fixed.

It is now for sale, I don't need it myself as I have one already. Should bring me a bit of much-needed Xmas pocket-
money, with a bit of luck.

Haven't put a firm figure on it yet, but not a whole lot.

Can't ask a fortune or they'll buy some cheap Chinese rubbish from Bunnings instead...  Sad

I have 5 more awaiting the same treatment (a Ryobi the same as this, a more expensive
Ryobi with a clutch, a 'Weed Eater', a 'Flymo' and an old Tanaka-engine 'Parklander'.

My 'personal' whippa-snippa is a Homelite, which has so far proven to be a 'good 'un'.
