I'd suggest as bad. To be worse they'd have had to start death camps with ovens. It took Christians to do that.

It invented the idea of freedom and equality.

The Jews didn't have it, nor the Romans, Hindus, Buddhists or any other religion. Universal human rights, for example, are unthinkable without Christian doctrine setting the scene for them.
