LNP backing down on dole demands?
Aug 1st, 2014 at 10:44am

https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/24600995/dole-overhaul-employment-minister-eric-abet...

"Federal Employment Minister Eric Abetz has given a strong indication the Government is willing to back down on its plan to make unemployed people apply for 40 jobs per month.

The idea has been criticised by crossbench senators and several business groups who warn it will put an unfair burden on small businesses.

The current requirement is for jobseekers to apply for 20 positions per month.

Senator Abetz has told the ABC's PM program that there has been some "pushback" to the Government's plan.

"It would be fair to say ... that there's been some pushback in relation to the requirement of asking people to apply for 40 jobs per month," he said.

Senator Abetz said the Government is willing to listen to alternative views as it considers reform of the dole system.

"We undertook what we believed would be a fair consideration of an application of a job every morning and every afternoon - [that] should not be too onerous," he said."

It saddens me deeply that such an aggressive approach to job seeking in a totally dead market would be a terrible burden on business, and this is the ONLY motivator for these clowns in Canberra on their fat salaries and perks for life to consider any changes.

""We undertook what we believed would be a fair consideration of an application of a job every morning and every afternoon - [that] should not be too onerous," he said."

Obviously these idiots including Abetz have no idea what they are raving about up there at huge cost to us.  How in hell is a broke job seeker, especially a kid without dole for six months etc, going to make it to two interviews a day - even if the interviews were available?

This man and his cronies are total idiots, and that's being kind to them.

Maybe they should start finding ways to actually create job opportunities instead of beating up on those struggling to stay alive.

I seriously wonder if any of these people are sane by any definition.

Do you think any planning goes in to these LNP policy decisions?

More 24 hour politics from a team completely lost in the wilderness.

They don't, an application is very different from an interview, the dictionary says so.

I was waiting for that - and the difference between trying to apply for non-existent jobs and going to an actual interview is... on the ground?

Nothing.  No jobs = no vacancies = no applcations = no interviews.

And FYI - I hate both LNP and Labor and Greens equally - none are up to scratch in my eyes and each has its history of betraying the Australian people for their own benefit or for some dumbass ideological reason that holds as much water as Ayers Rock in high summer.

Again, such incompetence.
whilst I am a great supporter of work for the dole, how can it be politically savvy to turn up the heat , get the voters off side, then retreat.

Just a lack of social intelligence from the libs ( a reflection of their lack of small business people in their ranks)  A small business person would never upset the customers (in this case the voters) without thinking it through. If a small business person continually upset the customers (and achieved nothing in the process0, I would expect their small business to fail in, oh, about 4 years.
the only hope for such a business to survive is that new management come in and do a refurb.

Funny how everyone could see the problem of way too many applications flooding business, but the government had to wait until its business mates spoke against it.

Shame, could have been the great HR boom of 2014

Indeed ... I posted about this in another thread.

Given the lack of jobs, a case can be made for cutting the job search requirements. I'm sure a lot of businesses will breathe a sigh of relief to have this unnecessary government-imposed workload reduced. The Business Council of Australia want unemployed people to focus more on jobs that they have a realistic chance of getting. Cutting the job search requirement to 5 a fortnight but requiring a plausible chance of getting each of those jobs would work far better.

5 a fortnight, yes. will be more likely to be possible applications than just reaching the '40' mark

Well there is a great deal of difference between being forced to apply for 40 existing or non existing jobs and being forced to attend 40 existing or non existing interviews and it is not just semantics either.

Applying for 40 jobs is a peice of p1ss, applying for enough jobs so you get selected to attent 40 interviews is impossible.

It sounded like you were one of the insane lefties making sh1t up to force some idealogical political agenda, and there are a crap tonne of those here.

700,000 unemployed = how many million job applications a month?

Such a stupid and ill conceived idea.
