Alcohol is killing 15 Australians a day and sending another 430 to hospital, according to a new report released today.

The VicHealth and Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) report found the number of deaths caused by alcohol had increased 62 percent in a decade, News Corp reports.

What a load of crap!!

They cant say that "alcohol is killing" when alcohol is most likely to be only a particular factor in a persons death.

They're full of sh!t.

This is the full report.

The claims they are making are reasonable, they are basically using a formula to derive the probable impact based on risk factors as well as using data from the ABS.

It is actually a law. It's just so badly written that it's almost impossible to use.

It's like citing figures on 'accidents involving alcohol' without reference to who actually caused the accident, and using those as the excuse for the lowest PCA in the world.... a sure fire money maker and a direct move for near total control over the populace.

Good point mate. More sober people have accidents than drunk people. Maybe police should be arresting those who drive sober on the grounds they are a danger to the drunks.

the point is... its illegal to drink and drive.....you get booked when you havent caused an accident....you know you are breaking the law....the fact is.. those who do it.. DONT CARE.

I have always thought if a drink driver killed on of mine I would go after them and maybe even kill them.. I would be so angry...

if a drive killed someone I loved but wasnt drink driving I could live with that [eventually] it was an accident..

True, but even if they were successful it wouldn't alter the risk much

yet again you get it astoundingly wrong. There is an enormous difference between specific drugs and thier addictive properties, it is not down to "adicvtive personalities" as you seem to think

cods - yes, and when does a 'accident' become 'intentional' ?
Drivers that have multiple driving infractions and STILL drive when drunk.
At some stage an accident is not accidental.
Someone was going to get hurt, it was just chance on who it was.

How many dead Australians would it take before your "risk assessment" decided it was a serious risk?

If 25% of all road accidents/fatalities involved drugs or alcohol or a combination of both .........

what does that say for the other 75% who are sober & drug free?

Proves there are a lot of toolheads on the road despite their sobriety.
