My browser's been hijacked
Jul 22nd, 2014 at 8:51pm

I've got something called 'Omiga Plus' and 'Search Protect' screwing up my browsing.

I couldn't uninstall them through System Restore, or Revo Uninstall, or CCleaner.

Any suggestions?

Update ... link

It didn't work ... and why am I not surprised? There wouldn't be 10% of the 'solutions' that have ever worked.

Found the answer ... link

... Adware Remover Tool v3.9

Miracles really do happen.  Smiley

And yes! I did make a donation.  Smiley

Well, I will tomorrow anyway, when I have more time.

You've installed new software recently, haven't you!   Roll Eyes

When installing or downloading new software, ALWAYS check the 'custom' installation beforehand to ensure you are only downloading what you need. If in doubt - don't install.

Too much of this stuff comes bundled with toolbars, search engines, homepages, etc. Especially if you choose the 'recommended', 'express' or 'normal' download options without checking the options.

Even then, if you uninstall the original program, there is no certainty that you will rid yourself of the problem bundle that was included.

Hence your problem.

BUT - remember Google is your friend.  Wink  Somewhere in the 'netsphere, someone else has already asked the question.

I wuzn't fiddlin', Lionel! I clicked a 'Download' button at a page where I've been many times without a problem. I noticed it looked slightly different to the normal button, but I didn't expect a problem.

It downloaded the biggest and most aggressive 'bundle' I've ever had to deal with.

It even hijacked Google so I couldn't find out how to uninstall them one by one.

In my rage I picked up one of my cats and repeatedly bashed the keyboard with it until I felt a little better as a result of this Occupational Therapy* ...

Adware Remover Tool v3.9 allowed me to access Google to find some soluitions, but I've still got some 'nasties' that nothing has managed to uninstall.

Yes - always be very careful to un-tick all the silly add ons when you install a program.

e.g - I have a nice program called Core Temp 1.0 RC6  but
I had to untick page after page of add ons while installing.

I have installed a little program called UnChecky that automatically unticks all the boxes on downloaded software which helps you not to install all that extra crap. Its not the panacea of all unwanted software being downloaded but helps

If that is the case i would suggest not using them again and pay for something that works.

Kaspersky were the ones who found the Stuxnet virus from Israel, this virus targeted the Iranian nuclear facility computers, it told the operators everything was ok while spinning the centrifuge up to a speed that caused it to self destruct.
This virus did not affect any other computers.

My work supplies it,shop around some friends have picked it up for less than $20 a year.

No single tool will remove everything, so it is best have at least 2 as long as they are compatible.

I've just reinstalled my Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security after a lot of fiddling around. I paid for a 12 month extension into next year, so I'm stuck with it for awhile.

Thanks brumbie ... I'll make a note of that.

Good one, Old Phart. I'll be installing that one for sure.

Add AVG and Malware bytes, both free. Also go to bleeping computer and download Rkill it stops the highjack part allowing you to run normal security software.

Malware bytes have a programme called file assassin. It will delete anything you tell it to, be carful.
