Moon Landing Anniversary Today
Jul 21st, 2014 at 7:14pm

Congratulations to the crew of Apollo 11, for a dangerous mission, bravely and successfully (and REALLY) carried out.

Hopefully Buzz or Michael will still be with us in 4 years time for the 50th Anniversary.
RIP Neil

Interesting to note that the flags left behind are/have faded in the sunlight, unprotected by the buffer of an atmosphere.

In 50 years time, with all those white flags, it'll look like the French got there first.

And ran away again.

Cool

LOL, yeah. Hopefully, before then, the will be another mission to the moon to replace the original flags.

I cant see anything wrong with the shadows in those pictures..

are people just making stuff up?

shadows are all basically going the same way... you assume everyone in the pictures are standing up dead straight although there is little gravity on the moon...

putting your arms out or leaning a bit one way will make shadows be a "little" off but so what?

let me know when you have a picture with shadows that actually go different ways...  Roll Eyes

I remember it. I was at school and we were all taken into the canteen where there were several TVs around, to watch it. I am glad of that, because I do believe it was real, it happened.

Why? Because the most straight forward answers are usually the right ones, in my experience.

So I believe the moon landing took place, I believe Harold Holt drowned and was NOT whisked away in Japanese sub, Diana died because she was dumb enough to get into a car without doing up her seatbelt. There are no reptilian aliens, only us. And so on.

They have satellites that can spot a door knob in outer space, they can spot children playing on the beach from another country, but they can't find a jumbo jet that apparently fell from the sky.

Yes, they have satellites, but they have to be pointing in the right direction at the right time. My understanding is the satellites are moving and send back a stream of pictures, but that doesn't mean everything that happens on earth is under surveillance at the one time.

When there is a murder, we don't hear of satellite images being called for so police can see who came in and out of the house that day. Because although a satellite could have seen it from space, it probably wasn't looking.

We're fond of thinking technology is king in our world but the truth is it isn't, not yet. You could get lost in the bush and die before anyone would find you, unless you had your own tracking gear with you.

A boat could sink without trace unless it had its own tracking gear turned on.
A plane can crash into a lonely patch of sea with not a soul to notice, unless it has its electronic stuff turned on.

It's suss alright, what happened to that plane, but not because a satellite didn't pick it up.

It was a great achievement, but needless to say they were either deeply hypnotised, or as insane as someone suffering from the terminal stages of syphilis.

No sane person would risk such a venture that carried with it the very real possibility of a terrifying death.

And all of them who have gone into space on the shuttle have been as mad as any one in a padded cell at the 'Sunny Days Asylum Refuge for the Irretrievably Insane'.

Just saying.

We all remember those blurry images from the moon ... and still nobody has explained to me why 45 years later CCTV images of thieves robbing stores are just as blurry as that footage that came from 384,000 kilometers away.

Yeah........I remember it on a tiny TV on a high stand so we could all see.

Perhaps strangely, the Apollo 13 crisis has stronger recollections for me.......

It's down to pixel numbers and the amount of light needed.
Most stores don't pay the same for their security cameras as NASA paid for the cameras sent to the Moon. Check out a 1970s super8 film sometime.

It's down to pixel numbers and the amount of light needed.
Most stores don't pay the same for their security cameras as NASA paid for the cameras sent to the Moon. Check out a 1970s super8 film sometime.

I don't agree.

I have a tiny little Canon PowerShot A400 digital camera that I bought years ago in Porn Shop that can film footage many times clearer than what I see on TV when they show us footage of thieving etc.

That's still a lot better than most of the security cameras though.

The moon landing vids were at about the same resolution as your average CCTV camera.

Why they look very similar is because the moon landing vid was filmed at a much lower frame rate than normal broadcast video and the raw footage was processed on earth to remove the jerkiness. The processing degraded quality. The individual frames from the raw footage were of higher quality that the processed ones.

Your average CCTV camera footage is compressed - unlike that on a digital camera taking video. It's compressed so 24hrs or more can fit on either a standard tape or digital drive. With compression you also loose quality.

Typical CCTV is just 330k pixels.

Thanks Gizmo and life.

It still doesn't answer the question why CCTV footage in the year 2014 is of such poor quality. The images should be crystal clear.

More 'could be' than should be. It really depends on how much you're willing to pay for the camera systems. (Also, a lot of times, what the media shows is blurred deliberately so the suspect doesn't realise that they are recognisable).

Harold Holt was a notorious homosexual ... (which seems to be an unfortunate condition suffered by more Australian males than any other nationality on Planet Earth) ... and it was rumoured at the time that a Chinese sub had picked him up and taken him to the Land of the Middle Kingdom where his 'closet' would be a little more secure from the gaze of the Australian media.

Prime Minister Harold Holt Was Murdered

...

Harold Edward Holt, 1908-67

...

Harold Edward Holt, 1908-67

Australia : The Commonwealth Government's website reads:

Harold Holt disappeared while swimming at Cheviot Beach near Portsea , Victoria on 17 December, 1967 . His body was never recovered. Without determining the cause of Holt's death, a joint report by Commonwealth and Victoria Police, submitted in January 1968, concluded that, '... there has been no indication that the disappearance of the late Mr Holt was anything other than accidental'. The report (see copy on file A1209, 1968/8063) found that his last movements followed a routine domestic pattern, his demeanor had been normal and despite his knowledge of the beach, the turbulent conditions (high winds, rough seas and rip tides) overcame him. The explanations put forward for a failure to find the body included an attack by marine life, the body being carried out to sea by tides or becoming wedged in rock crevices. While a variety of theories have been expounded about Holt's disappearance, the Commonwealth Government did not deem a formal inquiry necessary, accepting the conclusions of the Police report.

Contrary to the above, Holt was murdered, because he was opposed to American bases such as Pine Gap being built on Australian soil

Prime Minister Harold Holt was murdered late Saturday night on the 16th of December 1967 and was reported missing around midday on Sunday the 17th of December 1967 while swimming. There was no evidence to support the "official" report of Harold Holt drowning, nor was there any evidence of a Chinese submarine abducting him and of course "they" all knew this and it was 6 months after this website was up "they" then get the Victorian State Coroner to hold an inquiry into Harold Holts disappearance to have an Official finding 38 years later how Harold Holt drowned on the morning of 17th December 1967.

The Victoria Coroner ignored my request as shown by the below letter sent to him 16 months earlier, to give evidence at the inquest into Harold Holts disappearance and where the Coroner also ignored my Brisbane Supreme Court sworn Affidavit, file No: BS 1127/04, in which pargraph (12), I state "As part of my duties I engaged in several clandestine operations, one of which was the removal of the body of the then Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt from his home out to a waiting fishing boat the night before it was reported he disappeared while swimming" and was also stated in my Supreme Court Affidavit, file No: BS 9166 / 03.

Read on and judge for yourself what is "Truth"

I remember at the time of Holt's disappearance reading of very strong rumours that he was in fact a closet homosexual ~ (unlike the outrageously candid SA Premier Don Dunstan with his pink pants) ~ and that his 'disappearance was somehow linked to his predilection for backdoor activities.

I've searched Google without being able to confirm these rumours. Airbrushing, censorship, friends-in-places-of-influence etc has taken its toll on this piece of history.

Not sure whether you mean confirm the rumours are true, or simply that you read rumours......if the latter, here you go.....

The Truth Behind the Moon Landings
Documentary debunking the conspiracy theories surrounding the first moon landing.

I can't remember the explanation for why there were no stars in the moon videos...

--> "The answer is to do with exposure time. Your typical lunar photograph features an astronaut wearing a bright white spacesuit, some white equipment of mysterious and arcane function, and several square kilometres of greyish landscape, all beneath a pitch black sky. Compared to the amount of light falling on the camera from features on the surface, the incident light from the stars is tiny.

If the camera had a long enough exposure time to capture enough light from the stars that they would be visible, everything else in the image would be overexposed and bleached out. Even if you take a photo of the stars on Earth, it's unlikely you'll see much if there's anything even a little bright in the foreground."

Well, stone the crows! I was about to do a back-flip on Harold Holt being bent as a dog's hind leg ... but then you manage to dig up the dirt from the bowels of Google.

Thanks for that Alinta.  Smiley I didn't know about McMahon though. That's the first I've heard of it.

"So Sonia provided the respectability and family that William McMahon needed to win the 1971 federal election. She wowed the in the US too when she visited the White House in that slashed-hip white dress. Another PM’s wife who had much in common with Sonia was the not-so-glamorous but just-as-savvy Dame Zara Bate who had been the wife of also-gay Prime Minister Harold Holt until his suicide in 1967. Holt was a known philanderer, but he did not dabble in women…he liked boys – young boys at that – and was caught in bed with them on two occasions ... "
