I remember it. I was at school and we were all taken into the canteen where there were several TVs around, to watch it. I am glad of that, because I do believe it was real, it happened.

Why? Because the most straight forward answers are usually the right ones, in my experience.

So I believe the moon landing took place, I believe Harold Holt drowned and was NOT whisked away in Japanese sub, Diana died because she was dumb enough to get into a car without doing up her seatbelt. There are no reptilian aliens, only us. And so on.

We all remember those blurry images from the moon ... and still nobody has explained to me why 45 years later CCTV images of thieves robbing stores are just as blurry as that footage that came from 384,000 kilometers away.

It's down to pixel numbers and the amount of light needed.
Most stores don't pay the same for their security cameras as NASA paid for the cameras sent to the Moon. Check out a 1970s super8 film sometime.

I don't agree.

I have a tiny little Canon PowerShot A400 digital camera that I bought years ago in Porn Shop that can film footage many times clearer than what I see on TV when they show us footage of thieving etc.

That's still a lot better than most of the security cameras though.

The moon landing vids were at about the same resolution as your average CCTV camera.

Why they look very similar is because the moon landing vid was filmed at a much lower frame rate than normal broadcast video and the raw footage was processed on earth to remove the jerkiness. The processing degraded quality. The individual frames from the raw footage were of higher quality that the processed ones.

Your average CCTV camera footage is compressed - unlike that on a digital camera taking video. It's compressed so 24hrs or more can fit on either a standard tape or digital drive. With compression you also loose quality.

Typical CCTV is just 330k pixels.

Thanks Gizmo and life.

It still doesn't answer the question why CCTV footage in the year 2014 is of such poor quality. The images should be crystal clear.

More 'could be' than should be. It really depends on how much you're willing to pay for the camera systems. (Also, a lot of times, what the media shows is blurred deliberately so the suspect doesn't realise that they are recognisable).

Harold Holt was a notorious homosexual ... (which seems to be an unfortunate condition suffered by more Australian males than any other nationality on Planet Earth) ... and it was rumoured at the time that a Chinese sub had picked him up and taken him to the Land of the Middle Kingdom where his 'closet' would be a little more secure from the gaze of the Australian media.
