I bought a Bunnings shower head.
It was useless.

This good one came from a bathroom specialist shop.
Was massive fight to get it right, has been good for years now though.

It was ALL such a drama.

everything at Bunnings is crap ... nevertheless , it is handy

Not everything.

I bought a chainsaw chainsaw sharpener the other day for under $50.

Worked a charm. Really impressed. Did a fabulous job sharpening two of my old chains.

if you are lucky you might get to use it and one or two times .... after that you can throw it away

... Yes, I know all about the spray you are supposed to apply to the grouting and soaks into it and helps resist mould. Utter garbage. Have use it several times to no good effect.

You've never heard of chlorine?

Coles sell bleach for under $2 for 2L - active ingredient: Sodium Chlorite.

Mix it with water and spray that on. See how long your mould lasts. Tip half a cup into your loo - next time you flush you'll get a nice clean bowl.

The trouble with mould is that it lives under the surface and what you see is only the outer growth. Very hard to eradicate completely - especially on painted surfaces.

Bleach is an easy, cheap option that works (though be very careful on painted surfaces).

Just sayin'.

aso works outdoors to remove the mould/grime from paths and outdoor furniture, don't waste money on that '30 seconds' crap ... it's ingrediants, bleach .... and you pay 10x the price ...

if you want to do your driveway an even cheaper option is liquid chlorine from your local pool shop ... I get 5 lts for about $4 or 20ltrs for about $15

You haven't been listening.

I'm not looking for a cheap spray to get rid of grout mould. I've been looking for a grout that guarantees no mould growth whatsoever.

Since discovering there is no such product outside of a patent office's secret files ~ I'm opting for cladding my shower cubicle walls with specially designed panels that are totally free of grouting.

Bi carb and bleach mixed together are recommended for grout mould, but I only ever use bi-carb with the assistance of an old toothbrush. Bleach is too harsh on grout.

I had problems with black mould growing on the silicone around the bath and vanity, but this is caused by the plumbers using the wrong silicone. It has to be replaced with the correct anti-mould silicone. It's easy enough to do if you have a steady hand.

In regard to bathroom taps and shower heads being difficult to fix, they normally aren't unless you have ceramic fittings which are supposed to last a lifetime, but often they don't. You can't just change a washer, you have to replace everything because it's all welded together in one fitting.

True. You could forgive the poor quality products if the staff had any clue about what they're selling. If they bothered to look at the product manuals - they might learn something, but generally most of them are lethargic and uninterested. You have to do your homework before you buy anything.

I made this mistake myself. Used the wrong bright-white silicone even though it said for bathroom and kitchen edgings vulnerable to splashing.

I had to strip the whole lot out when a black culture of slimy mould behind the silicone threads appeared soon after.

You get what you pay for. I went back to Bunnings and bought the expensive version. Worked a charm.

Well, that's probably coz the hot young thing working there is in fact only using it as a filler while they complete their uni degree. Try asking the grumpy old bastard - he'll know what he's on about.

the bigges problem I have found with leaking taps and showerheads is when thread tape isnt used. Loctite should never be necassary. Thread tape is 95 cents a roll.

Teflon tape is a good standby for a leaking connection.

All it needs in a tile grouting for showers is a little bit of what's soaking into the ground over there in Fukushima. Just a pinch of what glows in the dark. Like a luminous watch.

Result: No mildew, mould, fungus, etc.

Orrrrr ... a bit of arsenic. Would work a treat.

Maybe nitroglycerin too if you make sure you don't bump the tiles as you wash.

Very nice. And put it on the floor tiles - but don't drop the soap!

Im not sure why you have this issue with tile mould, we clean ours with vinegar once every other week and there is zero mould. I tiled it myself and used the appropriate sealer on the grout. Im guessing the wall behind  the tiles isnt sealed prooerly

Wow... this thread has come as somewhat of a surprise.

I could see "The secret art of ass..." so I clicked on it.

Bummer.

Problem solved.

I'll soon be cladding my shower cubicle walls with waterproof, tile-embossed panels.

Cut to size ... Liquid Nails ... silicone ... voila!

It's a permanent solution to the mould-staining of the grouting.  Smiley
