Yes - Melbourne is like living in a refrigerator.

It's cold & damp.

That's the first time I've "heard" you say a good word about Qld Blue, well done.

They tell me this is the best time of year to visit Cairns, enjoy  Smiley

yes... we deliberately targeted this time of year because of the weather...

when we went over to WA in Jan last year it was over 40* every single damn day...  Shocked

most of the QLD outback was uninspiring to drive through.... it wasn't until we got to the North Side of Townsville that things started to change and all of the Tropical flowers, Mountains and Forrest's came out... beautiful colours

oh, I did stay at a place called Springsure in the outback around the QLD highlands area I think... anyways... at night the floodlight their mountains that are just outside of town... I camped up there one night with a fire going and having a few beers... I really enjoyed that too Smiley

this is our campsite where we are atm... birds are singing all day... all different sounds to what we get back at home Smiley

I live about 1000km (by road) south of Cairns in Rockhampton. This year, we seem to have missed the winter weather, with probably only a few days minimums getting into single digit temperatures. We might get a blast of cold weather by next week, with that high moving in to direct some Antarctic winds. But I doubt that I will see my heater(s) get any use this winter.

I lived in Cairns for a few years back in the 80's, my second son was born there, it's a wonderful place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there now, too touristy and expensive.

I've felt a real instant attraction to this area and can honestly say that out of anywhere in Australia... I'd like to come back to this place first...

You are there at precisely the correct time.  November - February and the heat/humidity does impact on you soft Mexicans.

Took the missus & kids (aged 4 and 3) to Cairns on holidays in 1997, drove up in
our XE Falcon staying in mid-range motels each night and while actually there.

We were there in August (actually arrived home the day of Lady Di's death) and
you couldn't have asked for better weather. Temps in the high 20s most days.

It used to get black and cloudy in the afternoons, but it never rained or stormed.

Yes, it was quite expensive if you are doing the 'tourist scene' but wouldn't be
too bad if you were a resident. We spent a fair bit, but then we were on a holiday
after all.

Sadly, our holiday was cut short due to our home having been broken-into and
robbed and the kids' Maltese terrier being murdered, but I'd love to get back up
there one day to see all the things we were forced to miss.

A planned train trip to Kuranda which we had to forego, for one thing...

Apparently Kuranda has (or had) a station-master who was a keen gardener, a video I
saw a while back showed the station a mass of plants and flowers...  Smiley  Smiley  Smiley

It looked lovely, a real credit to the bloke responsible.

I saw a sign that said "Cairns, the City in the Gardens"...

and believe me, its true...

plants and trees everywhere.... throughout the streets and also the local residents homes have lovely gardens...

there is a lot of road works going on about the place at the moment as they try and get it all done in the dry season...

Went up to the Daintree yesterday... stopped in at Port Douglas... another beautiful place with vegetation everywhere throughout the streets....

Not in Cairns it wasn't. .. another perfect day and we spent it on The Great Barrier Reef   Smiley

Some people say that the Ningaloo Reef is better but they are just don't know what they are talking about. ..

The GBR S**** on it... we sailed out of Port Douglas and went out near the continental shelf. ... the outer GBR ... it was fantastic! !!
