What mushroom is this?
Apr 27th, 2014 at 12:19pm

I saw a mushroom that popped up in the last few days in my back garden.

I wonder what it is?
It's huge as can be seen by comparison with a standard D cell battery
& a box of tissues.
It measures 9.25 inches across at it's widest point from the top.

It looks like the snails have eaten a fair bit of it -

does that mean it's not poisonous?

many blessings ,

alice ate one of these and expanded

her consciousness

they made a fairytale upon as much ...

cut a tiny sliver off at the top ,

if it turns from white to purple

it is a shamanistic technology placed in your yard

and you may want to make a cup of tea with

a tiny piece of it ..

or not ... either way

be at peace

No thanks - I wouldn't dare eat an unidentified mushroom.

Psilocybin mushrooms, also known as psychedelic mushrooms, are mushrooms that contain the psychedelic drugs psilocybin and psilocin. Common colloquial terms include magic mushrooms and shrooms.[1] Biological genera containing psilocybin mushrooms include Copelandia, Galerina, Gymnopilus, Inocybe, Mycena, Panaeolus, Pholiotina, Pluteus, and Psilocybe. About 40 species are found in the genus Psilocybe. Psilocybe cubensis is the most common psilocybin mushroom in subtropical areas and the black market.

Psilocybin mushrooms have likely been used since prehistoric times and may have been depicted in rock art. Many cultures have used these mushrooms in religious rites. In modern Western society, they are used recreationally for their psychedelic effects.

Q. How did the fairy get pregnant?

A. By sitting on a toad's tool.

You have to be careful with mushrooms.

Basically that's a toadstool, don't even think about sampling it. They're quite common and always toxic.
Psilosyb's are easily identifiable by their propensity to turn blue when broken or picked, hence the term Blue Meanies.
I wouldn't recommend them either, while they are psychoactive they invariably cause nausea and vomiting, not a lot of fun for an adventurous sheep, as the saying goes.
A good rule of thumb for Fungi that rise in an urban setting is that they're toxic until proven otherwise, edible ones don't usually like our lawns etc. My mother has some lovely specimens that come up in her lawn too, you'd swear they were edibles to look at or smell, but an expert we consulted had conniptions, they too were toxic.

Very funny Greg,
I just photographed 8 more types of mushrooms
that were in the park next to my place.
It seems that with the cold weather & damp conditions
Melbourne has experienced a mushroom breakout:
