the little girl has told police that she was taken by "Daddy's Friends"

and yet her parents wont give police their names...

what kind of deadsheet rsoles are this poor kids parents...  Sad

she needs to be removed from this danger along with her sisters..

I agree with you, these parents are irresponsible.
The reason they are not giving names is because they are scared of what will happen next. My bet is they have been told that it was a warning and next time it will be someone else and they won't be found, ever.

If you get into thousands of dollars of debt to drug dealers, what did he expect to happen? Drug dealers can't go through the normal legal processes to recover their money, I would imagine they usually just kill or maim the person in debt. This case is a bit different, which makes me wonder if they think there is still some chance of getting money out of the father. He would be under such a spotlight now it might be hard for him to do that.

Yes, they are deadbeat parents.

It seems we may have jumped to the wrong conclusions about mum and dad.

It's time mum and dad got in touch with Shine Lawyers, the bulldogs of the legal industry. I can see a big law suit coming up here.

This poor little girl, I so hope he didn't assault her.

................................................................................
...

For those two days rumours circulated that her father’s acquaintances or local drug dealers were to blame.

But the accused was not linked to the family, nor was the alleged kidnapping related to drugs.

He is known to police and has previously been charged with a child-sex offence, but the charges were dropped.

The innocent blonde child comes from a low socio-economic family that lives in a house of disrepair.

The simply dressed father was known for wandering around town without shoes.

I disagree with that. When they're that young - you're supposed to keep your eye on them all the time. The parents didn't keep their house secure - otherwise a stranger couldn't have entered their house to grab the girl - if that's what actually happened. They claim they left the windows unlocked.

Most of these abductions could be avoided if the parents were more diligent, but they put their own needs first and forget about the child.

I was there in 1997, and it struck me as being a nice quiet friendly little place.

Of course, a lot can change in 17 years.

I remember being shocked when that backpackers hostel went up, I have some pics of it before the fire.

The father put his child in danger by living a lifestyle that created an unsafe environment by his involvement in drugs and dealers and undesirables hanging around the family home. It is his fault in the main. I also believe that kids of that age should be afforded more security ,due diligence and care by their parents, this didn't happen.

The child was very lucky, that is all

That's a tad harsh Mantra.   I grew up in Bundaberg so I know Childers very well.  In Summer, there is no way anyone would shut every window...in fact...yed leave them all wide open and even the front and back door...to get the breezes.

These days the doors would be shut, but not the windows.  It does get effing hot and still up here.

Childers is a quiet sleepy old Queensland typical small cane town and pretty much nothing happens there.  The backpackers Pub was torched by some grub a few years ago........young backpackers died and a loonie was convicted.

It is just ya normal local yokel village type place.

Lived in Bundaberg for while as a kid..it is hot and I would never go back...the tropics killed me, but that doesn't not mean they cannot make it safe, safety screens on windows and doors still allow breezes through and make it difficult for pp too get in, well at least so easily.

[[‘‘There is a concern if the defendant is released he will attempt to destroy that evidence.’’
Detective Inspector Bruce McNab would not confirm reports a burnt camera and memory card had been found at the property, but said the remnants of the fire were being analysed by scientific officers.
Inspector McNab said Mr Kane, whose property is no more than four kilometres from the home of the toddler’s family, did not know her parents or relatives.
Police allege Mr Kane had been planning to flee Queensland before officers, who were responding to a reported break-in at a Bauple tennis centre, arrested him in Maryborough.
He was allegedly driving his car which was full of his own possessions and told police he had to leave Childers ‘‘because of all the heat ... about the missing girl’’.
When questioned further, Mr Kane allegedly said he took the girl because he ‘‘felt sorry for the conditions she was living in’’]]

That to me is baffling and very weird...if only the girl was able to tell her story.

the parents are speed freaks. I reckon the kid is probably better off out of there.  I wonder if the accused didnt have the childs interests at heart and may be a little retarded. Just a thought. there appears to be no suggestions she has been interfered with.

Horrible things happen in sleepy towns. They attract the occasional weirdo and there's no-one to keep an eye on them.

I agree. Safety screens are noisy to remove and a deterrent. Even a window lock would have helped if they couldn't afford security screens.

window locks are the best I think the you can leave the window open just enough... its like smoke detectors a small price to pay for real safety  if I had children they would be a must..

I had them on every window when my kids were little - these days I've got security grills.
