I'll take a moment to discuss the minor parties.

At the last election:
* KAP 2
* Independents 1

Current holdings of minor parties:
* KAP 3
* Independents 4

PUP was founded since the last election. PUP have strong levels of support around the Gold Coast, but less support elsewhere. They may get one or two members elected, but that's all. PUP will also bleed votes from the LNP - perhaps harvesting a substantial protest vote - and it is likely that these PUP protest votes will be exhausted and not find their way back to the LNP. If this happens, I do not see it making a difference to the overall election result, but it may change the result in one or two seats.

PUP has overshadowed KAP in the last year and KAP has low levels of support. I do not think KAP will hold all their seats. They may get one or two returned. Ray Hopper left the LNP to join KAP (and is therefore at the most risk of losing his seat), whereas Rob Katter (son of Bob Katter) and Shane Knuth were elected as KAP members at the last election and should have better chances.

Three of the four independents were former members of the LNP who left the party after the last election: Alex Douglas and Carl Judge (both of whom also joined and left PUP) and Scott Driscoll. These members may struggle to hold their seats against endorsed LNP candidates.

Liz Cunningham is a long-serving independent who has held her seat of Gladstone since 1995. She should be returned easily.

Cunningham is not running ~ retiring.  Gladstone is a big industrial area.  Should be Labor.

They're cashed up bogans Aussie so I'm not sure, unless there's a good independent to replace Cunningham, I'd say it will go to the libs.

It is a mixed bag.  Centered on Gladstone, but there is also a pretty big rural chuck around Calliope and similar.  Pre Liz Cunningham, a former Calliope Mayor, it was held by Labor.  I would not ink it in as an LNP certainty.

Can Newman ditch his current seat and instead contest something much easier?

Yes he can.....but he has said he won't.  He said yesterday something along the lines of "If I go down, the Team goes down," when asked who his replacement would be if he loses and the LNP get up.

The Anna Palmer issue was resolved months ago, cods, and was discussed here at the time.

PUP candidate nominations close this coming Friday, so perhaps best to wait until then before you prematurely use up all the emoticons.

Speaking locally, I sincerely hope (expect) Mr M Pucci, Member for Logan, to lose for the LNP. A former US Marine at high levels in their logistics arena ( Roll Eyes )  he is openly contemptuous of his constituents who query him on the Newman govt performance in Logan.

Arrogant and unwilling to talk to all constituents, he typifies this govt. ..I hope his fellows  ( Campbell's TEAM)  lose.

Logan WAS a Labor seat until the last fiasco of an election.  Labor will come back in Logan.

I despise the fortune the Newman government has been spending on media propaganda... its been going on for the last yr..!
The LNP, (I heard it from MR PUCCI himself) boldly declare, and keep on declaring, that QLD is leading the nation in most , if not all economic factors.
That is a bald faced lie... but the amount of money they are spending on full page ads, to that effect, in all newspapers and TV is obviously worth it in their eyes. Qld'ers, being as insular as we are.. may well believe the garbage. Shame.
The cost to the people of QLD must be staggering... the pap has been constant and that makes me mad, when they claim they're nearly broke...(bit like the Federal Govt in that respect eh?)

PLUS the ads are SO manipulative..  are we idiots or WHAT?

Guess we'll find out at the election.

Newmann will be praying for one.

1.  Allows him to be a hero.
2.  Distracts voters.
3.  Will reduce the number who vote.

Well.. re the hero thing?
I think Anna Bligh did a fantastic job dealing with those flood yrs and cyclones... IT didn't make HER a hero tho did it?.
