If obeying the law makes one a "f#ckin wanker", I'm guilty as charged.

Nothing against revenue, it's how fairly it's gained. 1k over is pretty unfair ...

1k over is breaking the law.

It's going over the limit.

You'd be happy with a murderer who stabbed someone 14 times being charged, but not with someone who only stabbed their victim once?  It was only one stab over the limit.

Good that you brought that up, I was just running through a few law analogies and came up with "should driving at 60 be attempted speeding?" If you attempt to kill someone it Attempted Murder, if you murder someone with 1 thrust rather that 61 would that be better? Luckily there is no stab limit to compare it to, it would be ridiculous and it's an ever so bad analogy. Going 61 is no more likely to kill someone than going 60.

This is a reminder of WHY it is called a "LIMIT" - and not a "SERVING SUGGESTION"

Has anyone been fined for not breaking the law?

i.e. not exceeding the speed limit?

1km per hour over the speed limit Greg??

Thats the point.

This is revenue raising. Nothing more.

Speed cameras are supposed to be about road safety, not collecting cash on unsuspecting motorists.

A speed limit is just that: a limit.

Don't go over the limit, and you won't be fined.

I can't see a problem.

"limit: a point or level beyond which something does not or may not extend or pass."

Can you tell me in all honesty that you never ever exceed the speed limit even for a matter of seconds? Of course you can't - no one can!

It's against the law though.

Break the law, and you get charged/fined.

Understand?

That's why I haven't had a speeding ticket in 30 years.. I drive everywhere at 40Kmh. I makes it much safer not to go anywhere near the limit, all the road ragers out there don't agree but I know it a limit and I stay away from it.

Exactly.

People just don't seem to understand what the word "limit" means.

If it's a limit, why can you get busted for going too slow? Surely it's a limit and we know what a limit is so how can this be?

I have to say that although the letter of the law states that there is a limit to the speed you drive in any given area where the limit is specified, and if you exceed it you are breaking the law, usually, and providing there are no other indiscretions, Officers may use discretion in reporting you (giving you a ticket). 1k over is usually not acted upon.

If a camera, then it is at the decretion of the senior Officer.

As an ex cop, although not traffic, I'd have to say 1k over is a case of there but for the grace of god go I, and scratch any report.
