Is manufacturing finished in this country ?
Dec 11th, 2013 at 8:19pm

Looks like it.

What's left ?

A pile of unprocessed minerals, an overpriced service sector where you mow my lawn and I'll mow yours, useless public service sector, as well as a debt ladened ponzi real estate sector. Not much opportunity for the next generation in terms of career prospects Sad

Sounds like we are fast heading for a Greece style of economy Sad

Yep another recession we have to have.

They should have hit the recession button after the GFC instead of blowing up a property bubble with massive amounts of debt which was a stupid labor initiative. Now we will get a worse recession whether we like it or not Sad

I have been saying that for the past 3 year.. and look Labor still wants their old ways to keep on going..

it just doesnt occur  to them that the Carbon Tax has had a huge affect on exports.... and in turn that makes importing things like steel even more expensive to us..and still they persist..

we have all sat and watched one manufacturer after another go our of business or off shore..or bought by intls either way its devastating to Australia.. now we are looking at Qantas going in the same direction..the car industry nev er was AUstralian in the first place.

dont blame the Liberals even a dull head would know this didnt happen overnight..suddenly they are juggling how many hot potatoes in the air..

and what do the left do..

THATS RIGHT BLOCK FOR THE SAKE OF BLOCKING..

so much for jobs and the working classes..

they long went the same way labor ideology  went??..a thing of the past.

This won't be any ordinary recession, the Great Depression will pale in comparison.

Remember all that bleating about how we avoided the worst of the GFC?

Guess what?

We haven't had it yet. Our turn is coming.

We can only use stimulus for so long, the house of cards will collapse sooner or later. It looks like the end of the street is coming up for the can kickers, it's almost time to pay the piper.

It would have happened with or without the carbon tax, that's a small player in the scheme of things. Industry is not closing because of carbon tax, not one company has cited carbon tax as the reason for closing down.

We can't compete, it's as simple as that.

I've got a few theories, but some other suggestions would help.....anyone?

taxes....air asia can't even land at the main airports, taxes are outrageous

cheaper competitors

CEO bonuses and executive wages....outrageous

our car industry....terrible products and no demand for them (who wants a new car that keeps on breaking down?)

bad customer service....Qantas staff are rude

FTA ....that will hurt, that could be why these companies have decided to pull the plug now. Daewoo will be re-badged as Holden and imported from South Korea for cheap.....same car, different logo.

Ultimately, it was bad business decisions by Holden and Qantas and a top heavy executive committee creaming the business that added to their downfall.

I'd say wages, but Germany and Japan have fairly high wages and they seem to do well. Maybe they are smart and efficient, we have far too much red tape....permits, state approvals, federal approvals, it goes on forever, I have no idea why anyone would even try to start a business here.

For some bizarre reason our governments do not want to help Australian business, that's why Australian's go to China to operate.

Bob Carr prevented a new business from starting up.....they went to China and now have a multi billion dollar company......

Any other ideas?

Of course it's wages Roll Eyes that's always the problem according to all these companies .... we are expected to have our wages reduced but company executive use creative accounting to revalue infrastructure & machinery so they get their obscene increases/bonuses. The countries we are expected to compete against exploit the poor/pay slave wages or less  .... so do we have to become a 3rd world country to compete? Gina Rinehart & few of her mates thinks so.....$2 a day, work until your 70.... won't have to bother family to come & get you if you croak on the job ..... they'll bury you in the mullock heaps & plant some trees on you.  Roll Eyes

-attitude,... this country has an attitude problem reflected in everything it does courtesy of s%$&*** americas b&&& sack!

We have to accept life is difficult- the baby boomers got easy times and made housing impossible for the rest because of attitude!

9-11 was a wake-up call and we still haven't got the message: NO GOOD EVER CAME FROM THE WASTE OF RESOURCES!

So,... where does this country go from its sad-ass sorry state?
