Sex and the ADF
Nov 5th, 2013 at 2:25pm

We've seen a torrent of sex and abuse scandals coming from the ADF going back over 50 years.   Yesterday, we learnt that the victim of the Skype Episode is being discharged from the ADF against her will 'cause she refused to buckle under the torrent of abuse and bullying she has suffered since she went public with what happened to her.  She made a very important point, why was she, the victim being punished whereas the perpetrator was being allowed to return to his studies at ADFA, a convicted and registered sex offender?

Are the Defence Forces unable to come into the 21st century and shed their antediluvian attitudes towards women?   Can the male members of the Defence Forces be allowed to treat women like chattel?  Isn't it time that a broad broom swept the ranks and got rid of the sexist chauvinists who seem to inhabit it and replaced them with modern, 21st century Australians who understand that women are their equals?

Or will they remain a sheltered workshop, where sexism, racism, homophobia and other uncivilised behaviours are encouraged and protected?  Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin

Like all institutions the ADF can be rather moribund in it's members' attitudes at time.

Hopefully the new Minister will continue the work started by the last in trying to clean this up.

I also found it remarkable that the perpetrator in the Skype case was being allowed to continue his studies and career in the ADF.  Particularly when one considers the statements by the CDF and the CofA.

You already know the answer to those questions.

The ADF, and all its members, are an absolute joke.

I'm not sure.  But one thing I am sure of, is that it's a matter for the ADF to handle, rather than uninformed, unattached civilians slavering for a scandal.

Dr Gary Rumble wants sexual abuse in Defence's senior ranks exposed

THE lawyer who led a high-level review into sexual abuse in the Defence Force has called for a Royal Commission to expose rapists and abusers in the military's senior ranks.

Dr Gary Rumble from law firm HWL Ebsworth has written to the government requesting a sweeping Commission of Inquiry to investigate whether serving ADF officers took part in sexual assaults when they were cadets.

Defence has been subjected to numerous inquiries following the skype-sex scandal and is reeling from revelations about homosexual initiation or "hazing'' rituals Shocked by the ADFA rugby team led by the man who filmed and skyped the sex act, Daniel McDonald.

A female victim "Kate'' this week announced that she had begun legal action against Defence over her treatment, after News Corp Australia revealed earlier this year that she would sue the military.

Dr Rumble is calling for an inquiry into "whether there are officers in the ADF [Australian Defence Force] who - when they were Cadets at ADFA [Australian Defence Force Academy] ...- may have committed rape or other serious sexual assault on other Cadets."

He also wants it to investigate whether any officers "stood by during rape or other serious sexual assault on other Cadets without intervening or reporting that rape"...

...According to one abuse victim, who can't be named and has suffered major psychological damage, a serving senior army officer covered up his assault and told him to resign and stay silent.

"It is for me unthinkable that the government, the ADF and the nation could accept the risk that a person who raped another Cadet or who stood by while another Cadet was being raped could hold sensitive and significant role model and cultural change positions in the ADF," Dr Rumble said.

His 28-page submission, obtained by News Corp Australia, says that the number of allegations of rape and sexual assault at ADFA was far greater than the 24 between 1994 and 1998 referred to by the DLA Piper Review...

Leaving it for the ADF to handle, so they can hide their dirty little secrets from public gaze won't solve the problem.  They need to make it open, transparent so we can see not only justice occurring but it being done properly.  Zero tolerance.  Once detected, it's an automatic boot out the door!  Have all ADF personnel from the highest to the lowest attend mandatory re-education classes!  Teach them what is unacceptable as they appear not to have learnt it from the rest of society while growing up.   Struggle and self-criticism groups!  They have to admit they have a problem before they can solve it!   Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy

Do you care about the internal issues of say, the CWA?  Of course not, it's none of your business - so why would you care about the internal issues of the ADF - another organisation with precisely zero connection to yourself?

The CWA isn't tax payer funded.  Why should the ADF be allowed to police itself, in secret when it is taking the tax payers' dollars?   We've see how it's been destroying the lives of it's employees through it's culture of tolerating sexual and physical abuse and hiding it from public scrutiny.

The latest revelations about HMS Ballarat show that a lot of the people in the ADF haven't realise there's been a shift in attitudes.  Instead they just keep sticking things up other peoples' bums!   Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy
