well good on you, you jolly old fellas.. yadda and MM..

but you do GET  the idea,  don't you,?  that everyone is different..? and trying to make a society of drunkards seems counter-productive to me.
Do you know? alcohol and pot have very different effects..??

Personally... the world would be a better place ..if pot was the paradigm, and alcohol, the illegal drug.  Not a doubt in my mind..
OOh  (off into fantasy land here guys...  if only.. it had been ,, in the sacrement ..  breathe the breath of Christ...
rather than..  drink the blood...  )
see what I mean ??    no don't s'pose you do... but  ...imagine ///  in the words of John Lennon.

See I don't think either needs to be made black market material ..
that just feeds the crims and the gangs..and it is quite frankly  STUPID and driven by ideology rather than science.  Much like our world today.. I'd say.. wouldn't you..??.

Emma Peel,

Yes.

"You pays your money, and you takes your choice."

i.e.
#1, We [mostly] can do, are able to do, whatever we want to do [in this life].

#2, And many of us do, with little thought for the consequences to ourselves or to others.

And #2, that, is the problem.

Not #1.

Revelation 11:18
And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

We [human beings], are [in a sense] 'the earth' [spoken of in Revelation 11].

1 Corinthians 3:17
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Men and women are too 'coarse', to understand [to take to their heart!] the responsibilities that have been entrusted to them.

Instead, almost all men and women just want to have 'fun' [....at someone else's expense!].

.......OK.        Wink

2 Timothy 3:4
Traitors, heady, highminded,
lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God

Hitchens makes some interesting points.

The drug-taking, hedonistic culture appears to come about through a number of influences:

Libertarian arguments, which Hitchens states.

A "hip" or "coolness" aspect to it.

The attempt to fill the void of nothingness with meaning. To flee reality momentarily to make life bearable.

No .. Hitchens makes no interesting points..
it is the same old  lame argument ...

as pointed out by a prev poster.. there is  NOTHING NEW about drug-taking  in ANY human culture.. except for the Inuit, apparently.. 'cos nothing 'll grow there..

So it continues to be a farce.. these drug laws continue to do far more harm..than good..

I am interested in how some people need more fantasy than reality.

*Sure....they're anti competitive as any subsidised job is.  It wouldn't be there without the tax payer.  Very damned difficult for a brainwashed collectivist to understand that I know....  (swaggy) *

The 3 major addictions in our society are in fact:

Gluttony
Alcoholism
Caffeine addiction

I'm not sure in which order. Just about all people who cry out loud that smokers and pot smokers should be punished are addicts themselves.

A woman I work with is anti-smoking to the extreme, but could probably do with eating a little less.

Nothing would be what it is,
Because everything would be what it isn't.
And contrary-wise - what it is, it wouldn't be.
And what it wouldn't be, it would.
You see?

Anyone who dies without ever having a deep and meaningful conversation with their friends on E is ... missing out.  Just to experience what the total lack of self consciousness is like, and sharing the experience of joy for no particular reason.

I am not advocating the use of drugs to anyone here, but looking at the numbers clearly not everyone gets addicted, most just have a really good time occasionally.  They (drugs) are part of human history.

Is it better for someone to behave badly (anti social, violent, aggressive, stealing, verbal abuse etc etc etc etc) if they are stoned, drunk or completely sober?

Is there such a thing as better in that case?

To explore, is it better to just sit and think "stoned, drunk or completely sober?"?

I guess if you want to remember your way back, completely sober would be the smart choice for an explorer wouldn't it? Otherwise you are just a drunk/stoned person going for a wander...

The POINT though, is that behaviour is the real issue, regardless of the person's state of inebriation.
