Channel 7 "News" Perth
Sep 22nd, 2013 at 8:00pm

Let's predict the "news" on Channel 7 tonight, shall we?

"Two planes don't collide"

"Shark swims in the ocean"

"Football team plays football"

"Weather happens, and cars have to turn on windscreen wipers"

Thanks Rick and Sue: what would we do without you?

Im betting there was a story about the dockers, complete with footage of people dressed in purple yelling and/or waving scarves.

Can you confirm?

Can't confirm (didn't watch).

However, I have no doubt that you're correct (pretty sure the weather girl would have wished them luck too).

Tonight should be easy:

"Windy weather blows down trees".

Complete with on-the-scene interviews and SES workers using chainsaws in the background.

Thank you Rick and Sue.

I will say this for Seven. I've noticed that their throws to outside reporters are instantaneous, whereas you get momentary time gaps with some other channels, particularly the ABC.
They must have superior technology.
For news I watch mainly ABC24 but I will go to Seven to hear about all the shootings and other rubbish.

Actually, I think they were playing mini golf,or something gay like that.

I'm guessing pussy isn't too high on their priority list.

They're in their 20's.  The little bastards'd be slaying tons of pussy, even if their agent wants them to continue with the wholesome image that got them where they are.

Bound to be an hour long bulletin tonight, with Rick Ardon reporting from the beach (how will he keep his hair down in all that wind?).

I watch Channel 7 on Youtube.

Australians don't do funny clips like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, do they? It's all serious.

And now come the calls to "kill the sharks".

I'm pretty sure nobody has ever been killed by a shark on dry land.

Stay out of the water people, and the sharks won't kill you.

Next problem ...

You're not wrong. It's that trite and eye-glazing here in Sydney too.

The 'news' opens with a 'sporting personality' (footy player) having to front up to court for drunken violence.

Then the 'news' moves to a car crash in one of the suburbs ... (Yes, pictures of a crashed car, you lucky people!).

After that the 'news' moves to a bush fire somewhere, and that's when you know there's going to be no respite from endless footage of leaping flames accompanied by a long series of interviews with people saying the absolute smacking obvious.

The 'news' services are a damned disgrace that pander to the least educated and the most gormless.

Thank God for the Internet.

And for SBS and for the ABC, if you can filter out the left bias.
The private media don't provide news services, they provide crime, accident and celebrity highlights. But they must sell.

Rick and Sue will be all over this:

"A house in Tuart Hill has received significant damage after it was hit by a car in the early hours of Saturday morning."

http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/tuart-hill-home-damaged-by-car-20131214-2zdt9....

They just love "cars going through the front fence" stories.

If a shark ever drives a car into a house, Channel 7 will have a meltdown.

Unbelievable.

A tough choice ahead for the newscasters.

What will be tonights lead story:

Another dude gets murdered by a young gutter punk

or

It's hot today.

Too close to call at the moment.

Hmmm, too close indeed.

I'm going with "It was hot today, and Jolimont was on fire!".

Unless, of course, there was a shark swimming in the ocean.

I was leaning towards "it's hot" too, on the grounds that it's a weekend, and the weekend "news" crew knows from experience they can sit around filming shielas at the beach and pass it off as a "how perth beat the heat" story.

Jolimont fire, It's hot, followed by another dude gets murdered.

Sheilas at the beach were a couple of tattooed kiwi gals.

Photo of a "bloke" in a wheelbarrow filled with ice was a nice touch.

Too hot for sharks, obviously.

Bound to be an extended bulletin tonight:

http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/former-west-coast-eagle-ben-cousins-charged-in...

If a shark is spotted swimming in the ocean, Channel 7 could end up having a two hour bulletin.

Another extended bulletin tonight.

http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/ben-cousins-exeagle-reportedly-in-mental-care-...

Rick Ardon will probably report from the grounds of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

(Unless a shark is spotted in the ocean - or we have weather)

The Sydney commercial stations are every bit as pathetic with their news content as yours are over there in Perth.

A car accident. A house on fire. A Footy Hero is suspended for a couple of games for poor behaviour at a night club. Another car accident. A 30 second mention of Trump and the race for the White House. A stabbing. A politician retires. Dead whales on the beach. Shane Warne is humping a new girlfriend.

All sounds familiar.

We have "Car drives through house" at least once a week.

Yesterday's obligatory footballer story was a juicy one:

Daniel Kerr fronts court after arrest

"UPDATE: Former West Coast Eagles star Daniel Kerr looks set to spend the next two weeks in custody, after a magistrate refused him bail over charges he breached a violence restraining order by sending two texts to his ex-wife."

" ...  the court was told he allegedly said he was "at the point of snapping", and was going to "slit your throat" and "rape your mother".

I'm sure they edit their news to meet what they think is their market, which doesn't say much for their market or maybe their perceptions of their market.

I don't watch TV news at all any more because it is totally fixated on the video. I liked it better when a guy in evening dress read the news with an occasional bit of footage thrown in. I think that was 1956.

Looks like Channel 7 will have an extended "news" bulletin this evening.

I've heard that Ben Cousins (some second rate footballer) was released from prison this morning.

That, along with the fact that sharks are swimming in the ocean, and summer is hot, will have Rick and Sue working overtime tonight.

Sue and Rick were in their element last night.

Two shark attacks!

Yes - two shark attacks in one day, in roughly the same place.

Rick got straight into the Channel 7 helicopter and flew down to Gracetown so he could broadcast live from the beach.

Sue did live crosses to him standing by the ocean, with his carefully glued down comb-over gently blowing in the breeze.

It was beautiful to watch.

The second guy who was attacked (by a shark, not Rick & Sue) went in after the alarm was raised and people were told to stay out of the water.

"Justin Longrass — who was surfing at a closed beach at the time — was treated by paramedics at the scene and said he was 'very lucky'."

He was surfing at a closed beach, thirty minutes after another surfer was attacked - I hope he's made to pay back the full cost of the paramedics' treatment.

Perth is a backwater. That was an exciting day for Perth. Probably resulted in record doctor visits for tranquilizers.

Grappler was so excited he fell out of his tree and broke a rock with his head.
