Hi Dave,
so you would eat it? - but not shellfish.

Sounds like Port Phillip bay in Melbourne - filthy.

The place to catch fish is the ocean or from the ocean shores.

I used to use a 100 hook kontiki when I was a kid but now
they only allow 3 hooks so it's not worth the time & effort.

100 hooks. jesus!! Those were the days.

Yes - it was great -
I always got at least one fish & normally 3 to 6 fish.
Sometimes there was only the head of a fish left as another
fish or shark would eat the hooked fish.
That's not bad for 90 minutes fishing.

I hope they allow 100 hook long lines on Kontikis again.
I had too many times with a rod where I'd be there all day & get nothing -
a waste of time.

Hi FD,
what do you think about allowing Kontikis & 100 hook long lines
back for recreational fishers?

How do you think you would end up going compared to the table of what is safe?

1.8kg a month works out to 60 grams a day on average. And that is for the (very few) "safer" species. You would not have to eat fish very often (for a fisherman) to push that limit.

Very few? Are you blind? Half of the list has 1200g a month or more as a limit. And who eats fish every day? Also most fishermen don't fish in one place, eg I fish offshore, other estuaries, rock and beach away on holidays etc. Your fond of cherry picking the worst case aren't you? You even started out that you can't eat fish from Sydney Harbour at all!

Don't joke - when long lines were  banned I stopped fishing.
I don't like to lose & spend all day fishing for no success.

It's a pretty short list PJ. 150g per month is the standard recommendation. Theothers are the exceptions, not the rule.

Unless you are into Japanese style, you are going to eat a lot more than 60g per serve.

I am asking you a question PJ. One which you are going to absurd lengths to avoid. How much would you feel comfortable eating?

I said a lot of people don't eat any seafood from there at all.

It includes the most common species - how long do you want it? Also who in there right mind call 50% an exception? A few on the high risk less aren't even regularly caught\ eaten by anglers!

Unless you are into Japanese style, you are going to eat a lot more than 60g per serve.

But not every day - 1800g a month of fish is above the average intake for Australians.

You haven't asked that question before, please try to keep track of your B\S.

No, you said you can't eat fish from there, that they were "too toxic to eat".

I don't care how long it is. I am not going to eat anything from Sydney Harbour.

Quote:

Where is the 50% number from?

Quote:
But not every day

Duh. I said on average. 60 grams per day on average is not eating fish every day. Seriously, how many times do I need to explain this?

Quote:

So tell me PJ, do you think fishermen might eat more than the average intake? Think before answering.

You haven't asked that question before

I am asking the same question is as many different ways as possible in the hope of getting a straight answer out of you. Would I have more luck if I simply repeated the same wording? Are you having trouble understanding the question?

How much would you be willing to eat PJ?

Quote:
No, you said you can't eat fish from there, that they were "too toxic to eat".

I am not going to eat them, and you are refusing to even answer the question.

So it was a silly remark?

Try to keep up - half the list has an allowance of 1200g per month or more.

Duh. I said on average. 60 grams per day on average is not eating fish every day. Seriously, how many times do I need to explain this?

What possible purpose is there then to express it on a daily basis?

Some might - some might not. Don't you know that some people like fishing but don't like eating fish. Also that most keen fishermen don't fish eclusively in one estuary?

Look back at the posts. You asked how much fish I actually eat from Sydney Harbour and I answered. Then you asked a new hypothetical question how much would I eat.

How much would you be willing to eat PJ?

Why don't you admit that you falsely accused me when you first posed this question.

Yes you keep saying that, but what has this got to do with your lie?

It makes more sense to me than a monthly basis.

Well it seems you have understood the question. I guess that is a good start. Now, if only you could bring yourself to answer it.

Still can't bring yourself to answer the question eh? I did not falsely accuse you of anything. You are avoiding the question. Why?

I have nothing to avoid, your just projecting your own flaws back on me, ie your avoiding owning up to your bare faced lies.

I would (in answer to your second question) have no problem with eating fish from Sydney Harbour within the published safety guidlines - why would I? Do you have some special knowledge of dioxins/ food safety that the expert panel lacks?

I have no special knowledge, I just value my health more than that.

So you didn't know that there are small amounts of dioxins in other foods such as meat and milk?

Sure. And oxygen is a carcinogen. If I have to start counting how many cups of milk I drink to make sure I don't poison myself, I will become a hippy.

What's that's supposed to mean?

Do you have any evidence that staying within the guidlines regarding Sydney Harbour fish is a health risk?
