Towing sinking boats that are on fire will only mean more tragedy so the only answer comes from the wisdom of Clive.

Simply do what New Zealand has done. Just say, "you're not coming here. Then enforce it and whallah...no more deaths at sea.

Actually there is a program whereby immigrants can come here by plane. It starts with applying at the Australian embassy with an application to emigrate. Unfortunately these queue jumpers with their hands out don't want to wait their turn.

Nothing wrong with ideals ... and when it's practicle one should strive to achieve certain ideals , even the greens can get one right every now and then ... that however is a far cry from dealing with the day to day reality most people have to deal with.

Yes, and there's also a program for asylum seekers (e.g. get on a boat and make your way to a safe country).

You're confusing two different issues.

People have died and you have no sympathy. Why is that exactly?

Could you explain in detail what it is these people did that was wrong?

As far as I am aware, being on a boat out in the ocean is not illegal and it is certainly not doing anyone any harm.

So please, explain why the deaths of 60 or so people on-board a boat - doing nothing - is not worthy of your sympathy?

This should be good ...
