It sounds like Allah allows alcohol Abu can you enlighten us on why muslims dont drink alcohol despite the Quran allowing it?

If alcohol is indeed haram then why is there a verse in the Quran saying it is ok?

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

I once talked to a Turkish bloke at work about muslims drinking alcohol. He laughed and said "heaps of muslims drink alcohol". Apparently Pakistan is the leading internet porn users in the world.

Muhammed initially allowed it in case a ban on alcohol scared people away from Islam. He later 'revealed' that is is in fact banned. That is why there are contradictory verses. Muslims take the later ruling as over-ruling the earlier ruling.

As I understand it anything that causes affect or change to the human body is banned in islam. How is it that they still smoke and drink coffee?

If there are contradictions in the Quran then the fine print says it cannot be from Allah in sura 4:82
Quote:
Allah speaking-
Then do they not reflect upon the Quran? If it had been from any other than Allah they would have found within much contradiction

Abu can you explain the process of abrogation which sidesteps the contradictions in the Quran?

The Quran says it was revealed during the month of Ramadan, how can there be earlier and later verses if that verse is correct? Is that another contradiction?

The verse does not permit the drinking of alcohol at all.

For something to be permitted in Islam, there must be an express statement about it, not a general statement of its existence or prevalence.

It's well known alcohol was permitted by God for previous nations and even up until several years into the Hijri era. Alcohol in and of itself is not an "evil" thing. In fact the Qur'an says there is some good in it. However, the bad outweighs the good and therefore it is forbidden.

There's not really much to interpret, as it's merely a general statement about the reality of creation. It's not a verse that deals with the permitted and the prohibited things. The Islamic texts are very clear on things which are permitted and which are prohibited.

So everything is banned, unless explicitly stated otherwise, even if the Koran points out it's good qualities?

I did not state that.

Like with this entire thread, it emanates purely from your imagination.

The Qur'an never permits alcohol, it only ever prohibits it.

Can you explain how this differs from banning everything that is not expressly permitted?

What is the hijri period?

They make wine from grapes so does that verse allow wine ?

The Muhsin Khan translation from the link says this was before the prohibition of alcohol which indicates to those who reason that this verse allows alcohol.

Allah is saying you can take intoxicant from the grapevines how is that not allowing alcohol?

Perhaps reasoning is a bad thing in Islam.
