The Government is required at all times to act in the General public welfare therefore citizens disadvantaged by any economic decision must not be neglected from their entitlement as citizens to fully share in the General welfare of this Commonwealth of Australia...their is no entitlement for spoecial economic privileges under the common law or to rob other commonwealth citizens of their economic share of the public welfare...all wealth in this commonwealth of Australia is the public possession in common of all of its citizens... I would say on reading these comments on paying African workers $2.00 p day Ms Rineharts business interests should be confiscated by the public sector and she should be prevented from conducting Mining business in any other country.  That just makes me sick.  Where is the accountability? Huh Huh

She NEVER said she wants to lower wages or to pay wages of $2 a day, you imbecile! She said it's becoming increasingly difficult for Australia to compete against countries that DO pay wages of $2 per day when our government slaps on more taxes and red tape. Try reading her entire speech before making an even bigger ass of yourself!

So if what you say is correct, what stratagies did she offer to keep Au competative?
Anything?
Oh thats right 12 months ago see wanted to import guest workers on a lower rate than Au workers, no 457 visa mind you (that means you have to pay Au wages) just import poor labor from Sri Lanka and the Phillipines, she used Singo as the example.

Perhaps she might just be happy that the minerals she inherited are still well above the $100 mark p/tonne and enjoy the money she'll never be able to spend.

Hang on a sec. As far as I know, it is not her job (or that of any company CEO) to make our country more competitive. Their sole purpose is to make money for the business and its shareholders. It is the job of the government and PM to make Australia more competitive. Do you not see the stupidity of what you just said???

Oh, by the way - Immigration Minister Chris Bowen supported Rinehart in her endeavour to import those workers...

The commonwealth Government must show how it is in the interest of the General Public welfare of citizens of this Commonwealth of Australia to allow mining companies or any other to import foreign labor... Smiley Smiley

Julia Gillard - twice selected, never elected.

We're still paying for the Whitlam Government.

The Government must at all times act in the interests of the General public welfare of its citizens, that means it cannot take any decision that disadvantages the General public welfare and advantages another country... Smiley Smiley

"So if what you say is correct, what stratagies did she offer to keep Au competative? Anything?"

She was bitching about competitiveness
Your saying she doesn't want to reduce wages
So you would either she might offer an idea or two or you might think her solution is wage reduction seeing wage comparison wage mentioned.

I love how you think government should put business interests above its people, have you offered your services to Gina?
You could probably go as high as $5 p/day.

You claim to believe in the interests of the Australian people ahead of business yet support the insidious Nazi doctrine Arbeit macht frei?  Your logic is fatally flawed... Grin Grin

Looking at the posts here it that many of the conservatives do in fact support the principal of $2 wages (as long as it doesn’t apply to them).

I would think a good reason for their preferred party to stay in opposition indefinitely.

The ALP have consistently and illegally acted against the General Public welfare of Commonwealth of Australia citizens in everything they do.  Apply the General public welfare test to all of their reforms over the last 30 years and see how they score... Smiley Smiley

Good luck to Gina finding Aussies to work in the mines for $2 a day when we're having trouble finding basic mine workers for $100,000+ a year.
As for skilled professionals and tradies..shes got no hope so I suggest she moves her whole operation to Somalia where she thinks things are so much better for multi billionaires like herself and her cheer squad is welcome to follow her  Grin
