Newstart People questions....
Jun 12th, 2012 at 10:04pm

(Throws a canard in the ring)....

Newstart is $489.70 for a single - OK?   I have a niece and she is currently required to do work-for-the-dole five days a week PLUS seek actively four jobs in that week.

My questions are these:-

Where is she supposed to find the time to do all that, including the travel and preparations etc for any interview?

Where is she supposed to find the MONEY to do all that, including travel, and live as well?

My view is that 'work-for-the-dole' is nothing but window dressing to satisfy some mythical demographic out there who genuinely believe that people who are out of work - when there are about 700,00 such persons PLUS at least the same number under-employed in MacJobs or about 1 in 10, or to put a perspective on it, 2-3 in a school class - are somehow 'getting something for nothing'.

Hey - it's a bit over a year until we attempt to throw out both the quasi-fascist parties that currently run the  tag team here - so I thought I might just go politically incorrect here and seek some REAL answers to REAL issues that are relevant..

$489 is for the long term income support recipient. Others receive $402 a fortnight

Work for the dole is slave labour. They should simply pay a decent wage and call it a job. This is who is doing the jobs that cambell is getting rid of the workers for. He sacks 20k public servants (the gardeners and the road workers) and gets work for the dole slaves to do it. Ya think? Is this what he is doing? I wouldn't be surprised. It would be going on in all the states if it is the case.

One of Tony Abbott's ideas if he wins the next election.  All unemployed under 50, will have to do work for the dole rubbish.    Sad

Old Tone's will teach them a lesson for losing their job.

The poor bastard started work at fifteen and has worked for forty years, paid taxes, gets retrenched. If that's not bad enough he gets punished by the government. Is that fair Tony?

The problem with WfD is that it is purely and simply a PUNISHMENT for
those who are out-of-work.

There is NO training, and NO positive outcome.

And never tell a prospective employer that you've done WfD, you may as
well just tell them you don't want the job, because you won't GET the job.

What were the other things Mr Abbott had in mind for the unemployed?.  Wasn't income management one of them?.  Also didn't he say, the unemployed should travel two hours to a job.     Sad

Income management is one of the most offensive ideas they've ever come
up with in their war on the unemployed.

It should NEVER be allowed to be implemented.

Ever.

I did email Bob Brown on this matter, some time ago.

In a very reasoned and pleasant, PERSONAL reply, he stated that
the Greens would NOT be supporting income management.

So, unless their position has changed......

That is good new Kat, also let us remember.  It is also the greens that support a fair and just increase, of $50 a week, for people that are on new start ( no start.)   Wink

It dosn't matter weather abbott and his liberal get in and continue these WFD programs, They where started by the howard government liberal and continued by Rudd and julia

so while there is unemployment, this is the only solution they have. Australia has

I have done WFD 3 times now and i won't be doing it any more.

If you are single under 18 years and living at home the rate is $202 per fortnight.

If you are single 18 years and over and living at home the rate is $265 per fortnight.

Then suddenly when you turn 21 living at home or not you get the full rate.

They means test parents to check if you can be paid at all but shouldn't there be consideration that in some circumstances the parents and the child need more than this?

Yes well that is all well and good to say that.  Although I am not sure if it is a matter of choice for most people.  How many unemployed would want to do, work for the dole rubbish?.  I think you will find it is very few.  In other words if they say, you are on a wfd, then you are on a wfd.  I think a persons age also has a lot to do with it though.    Sad
