PM's should be born here.

Interesting insight by Liberal MP Kelly O'Dwyer, when she raises the topic that senior minister should be born in Australia.

Given Gillard and Abbott are both bloody foreigners, I tend to agree.

Stupid idea.  The politicians we have at the moment are bad enough.  Do you want to reduce the amount of available talent even further?

Yes, it is a stupid idea.

However, it's not surprising that the suggestion came from her.

Forgets that her leader Tony Abbott was born overseas ... "

And it seems the haters have beat me to it - the consesus seems to be that it's "a stupid idea".  What's stupid about it? (besides being Racisss)

Funny.
Abbott and Gillard who class themselves as Aussie but born in the UK would be disqualified.

Yet myself, who classes himself as British first and Aussie second, would qualify.

Would be kinda funny.

If we're looking for silver linings etc.

What is it racist to expect the people that represent us to be born in this country?  We are not taking about the color of their skin but the land of their birth.  This Prime Minister is so bad it could not possible have been scripted worse.  She is so delusional and arrogant.

We just need genuine people who want to do good things for the country wherever they were born. Rudd and Howard were born here and they weren't any more politically astute than Gillard and Abbott.

It's not so much a matter of where they are born, but whether they care. The politics are the important thing, not their birth certificate, their accent or the colour of their skin.

I agree CW, the idea that our PM should have to be born here is a crock, imagine the breathtaking arrogance of assuming that only people physically born here are best placed to run the country, why that sort of arrogance would make us ... well America.

The very first thing Gillard did when she became Prime Minister was tell us all she had more important things to do a Prime minister than to attend remembrance day services.  Although raised a considerable part of her life in the country - no love, no true affinity with the culture or the heritage, she has been constantly having to repair damage and offense caused by her ignorance.most recently commissioning a survey into the relevance of ANZAC to modern Australia/  We need legislative and constitutional changes in place to protect our rights as a people in this land from foreign occupation and rule.
