The Can Do administration is looking more and more like a rerun of Yes Minister. First the pot plants, then tea and coffee, then sandwiches, now people.

Will the tea ladies be next?

Got a link to that. Any substance at all or is it that this new government is getting rid of the yes minister parties waste.

Private sector funded offices for pollies?

Sounds fishy.

How so. They will lease just like any other business does.

Great now our pollies are paying astronomical rent with taxpayer funding!

FOREVER!

Leasing is fine, for a business without the capital to buy, and which can claim the lease payments as a full write off against tax, but for a government to sell it's buildings, then lease back space, is insanely bad economic sense.
My brothers law firm had been leasing offices in the cbd of melbourne and sydney for many, many decades, and when he became senior partner he looked at the figures, and bought a few floors in new buildings around the corner from the courts.
It has saved the company millions, and they have to pay taxes so I just do not see how they can justify this sort of short term thinking.

As opposed to the 'free' building they would just acquire out of thin air.

It is normal practice for business and governments to rent office space from Op Ex instead of buying buildings out of Cap Ex.

No massive expenditure (taxpayer funds) up front, allowing funds to be better utilised elsewhere.

No maintenance costs

Remember every day we don't have the bligh labor government in power is a beautiful day for all Queenslanders

But to commission a private company to build and pay for building a privately owned building (2bil) just so the govt can lease it @ some phenomenal rate? Comon theres a scam in there somewhere. Why the heck would the private company do that anyway?

The scam is that Queenslanders don't have to fork out $2 bil for a building that the government can just rent once it is finished.

It seems dastardly to some people but it is pretty standard these days.

Many governments rent office space from private companies, I don't really understand the conspiracy theory here.

BTW you people seem to like to use highly emotive words like astronomical and phenomenal, do you know what rent they will be paying in comparison to the normal rents paid for office space in brisbane?

Try and keep the hysterical language to a minimum if we could.

Way to not get it.

IF you were an 80 year old, and thought, blow it, I am not gonna live forever, I will sell my home, and spend the proceeds, renting some beautiful new apartment, and live like a king til I die, I would say, good move.
If you were 22, just married, and having your first kid, and had inherited a house, and said the same, I would say you are a freakin moron, because the money will run out in ten years, and you will be far worse off, and with NO assets.

Of course I have a link. It's called a brain. You should try it sometime.

Actually that is nothing like what I meant.

Read it all again or get a child to read it for you, it isn't that difficult to follow.

Yes it is. You said highly emotive words. Meaning meant to get a reaction. Like you did.
