It's A Carbon Pricing Scheme ...

Why do some still think charging the largest dumpers, of a certain pollution, is a tax.

Is it because they are economic illiterates?

Actually, its more like a levy.

I believe the australian definition of a "levy" is a tax that has a limited life (Howardesqe).

Since the carbon tax levy will be replaced by an ETS in 3 years, its definitely a levy.

I do not see how purchasing carbon credits is either a tax or a levy.

If someone decides to dump a lot of pollution into the environment, they buy credits.

Credits !!!

No one pays a tax.

No wonder Abbott is classed as an economic illiterate by Peter costello.

How much will anyone in the community pay in carbon tax

Answer = $0

How much will the identified high carbon dioxide producers pay in carbon tax?

Answer = $0

How much money will the ATO collect?

Answer = $0

The only tax ever where nobody pays any tax and no tax is collected.

You are kidding right?

A Tax or Levy is legislative payment to the government and is a reduction of your profits

Purchasing carbon credits is also legislative payment to the government and is also a reduction of your profits

Answer = $0
the pay it through higher prices because the carbon tax is passed on through these companies

How much will the identified high carbon dioxide producers pay in carbon tax?

Answer = $0
in accordance to what the ALP dream up. See the list of 500

How much money will the ATO collect?

Answer = $0
The ATO is just another collection agency for the government. There are many revenue collection agencies for the government

You do point out how the opposition get away with claiming it is a tax by the definition that anything the government collects by any means for any reason is a tax.

So you argue that any price increas is effectivly in itself a tax, We all understand that some prices will increase thus compensation but it is still not a tax being paid by consumers in any way - not even close.

Just another collection agence - maybe the silliest thing you ever said. They only collect income tax business taxes GST and virtually every other federal tax - probably well over 98% of tax if not 100%.

I argue that any legislated requirements that increase costs to a business is either a tax or a levy

You are wrong about the "some prices will increase" comment. Anything that uses products and services from the companies that pays the carbon tax will pass on the prices to consumer.

You name me 3 things in this economy that you use that does not require electricity or petrol as part of its process!!

As for the "agency" comment - read my post again. The ATO is simply a collection agency. Each of these agencies have legislative powers to act to collect the required revenue.

Qantas is just one airline that has increased its airfares as it seeks to limit additional expense due to the carbon tax and in doing so, has passed on the cost of this carbon tax to its passengers. Councils around the country will do the same to ratepayers when they are hit with the carbon tax from July 1. Your delusion that ordinary people in the community will not pay for this tax is simply ridiculous.
