Sheeples you mean. There's always the sheeples, that's why we have one bad government after another. Non-thinkers and easily led.

Ppl have to be gullible in the first place.

All you have to do is eliminate the social/political infrastructure that prevents such gullibility from taking place: independent media, Constitution protecting human rights and supporting free speech, separation of powers, independent judiciary/courts, Miranda rights, limited arrest/search/interrogation powers for the police, privacy laws, a government open to public scrutiny and an education system that teaches people to think for themselves rather than indoctrinating them with nationalism and jingoism.

The people can't do anything against state propaganda if the system works against them.

It isn't actually that hard to throw democracy out the window. Once you establish an iron grip on society, censor all sensitive information from the media and create a National Internet Firewall, all you have to do is eliminate the older generation -- those who remember what things were like before the iron grip started. The younger generation will grow up believing the lies. This is what happened in the last 20 years after Tiananmen Square. It's that easy. It's even easier when people don't want to know the truth.

Examples include the Great Omission from Japanese textbooks and the Great Firewall of China.

How many of us know what life was like 20-50 years ago? I can only find out from TV depictions, history books and informative web pages and YouTube videos.

The easiest way to get rid of democracy is to just turn off the Internet, close down all the media, all universities and replace them with organisations you trust will tell the people what you want. If a message is repeated often enough, people will then start believing it. Wait 20-50 years and see what happens. The fact that we need to be kept up-to-date with things just shows how easy it is to create misinformation.

Yeah. Hope i find this thread again tomorrow morning.

Pffft. You think all governments are bad regardless.
What you call "thinking" is all that anarchist and socialist rubbish.

All you have to do is eliminate the social/political infrastructure that prevents such gullibility from taking place

I think the powers that be have been very successful at achieveing this end over the last 40 years

]independent media  - Are your seriously suggesting we have an open and unmonopolised press? Have you been reading the press lately at all? Have you had a chance to consider whats happened with Murdoch and Packer and Black over he ast 30 years?  I think once you appraise the evidence that suggests the increasing concentration of control over the editorial content in MSM (worlwide) and that the primary consideration for a successful media organisation is a growing profit margin - then it is easy to see that the messenger of "news" is a vehicle used to brainwash the masses into accepting that capitalism is a preferable form of democracy than other forms....... MSM is simpley the Kings messenger. Is the King going to tell the people the way the social/political infrastructure isn't running like it should and needs to be dismantled. When I was a kid we got told Christiansens story of the Knigs new robes - did you hear of this tale?

Constitution protecting human rights and supporting free speech  - It's right abut here unfortunately that your lack of knowledge regarding the "Australian Constitution" shines through. By the time any sort of "Constitution" was considered neccessary for the newly fedserating colonies of the antipodes the English monarchy and it's brawling aristocracy had paid for and learnt a lesson from war with the american colonies. It was certain that the interests of the blue bloods and it's corporations would be better served by a Constitution the inferred that the citizens of this colony had acquired some rights and responsibilites through natural association from the magna carta. Unlike the massive and extrordinary rights that are explicitly drawn up and reiforced to clearly outline the rights of commercial religious organisations, there are NO CLEARLY DESCRIBED HUMAN RIGHTS IN OUR CONSTITUTION. We have masses amounts of laws that can be changed and repealed and new ones brought in - on the whim of any government that controls both houses of parliment. Thankfully there hasn't been an Äustralian Milosovich or Bush in our past political history. But t suggest we have some form of enduring unassiable human rights in our capatilist democracy is a joke...........  It is however one of the reasons many international corporations will continue to invest in AUstralia no matter who has the reigns of power. That as the Constitutionally enshrined rights of commercioal etities under the Corporations Act entitles them to certain rights that can not be removed without a change in the Constitution ie a referendum, soveriegn risk is almost zero.

separation of powers - Do yourself a favour and read Power without Glory idf you havent already as a quick primer on the framework Oz politics still chiefly works within today. For an living microcosmic example of how the Oz landscape can be experienced live in Tasmania for a couple of years. One of the most didactic, polarised, secular, politicised populations I have ever lived in. Then tell me we live in a society here in Oz where there is a seperation of powers.

independent judiciary/courts[i] - see above. further, having experienced first hand the wonder of how QLD operated through the 70-80's as well as having the distinction of having been a victim of the "list" the QLD police force  "special branch" kept, I can tell you mate you are dreaming.

[i]Miranda rights
  - see above, no such things as rights. we have priviliges that can be withdrawn. But we have no rights that have not been explicitly defined through precedence in the courts. Here in Oz there is a Federal Law that allows CITIZENS to be dragged of for up to 7 days without having to notify ANYONE of your detention. If you notify anyone - you face contempt of court proceedings. If any family is notified of your detention and they tell anyone - they face 20 years in boo for contempt of court.  Savvy? Mate it is a long way from anything you understand as a democratic state. It is merely a veeneer that can be stripped away with a new act of parliment.

limited arrest/search/interrogation powers for the police - see above

privacy laws - privacy laws SUCK. the only thing they do is give CORPORATIONS the right in law to stop the public what nasty crap they are up to while trying to screw the public for an even greater profit on the balance sheets - euphamistically reffered to as growth. Ironinc isn't it that mining and resource giants destroy forests and whole ecosystems for, wait for it, growth  Cool Cool Cool

a government open to public scrutiny   - the only thing Government is open for over here mate is corruption.
until there is a requirement for politicians their immediate families and political appointees  to register pecuniary interests (worldwide) for their lifetime and the acquiesance to full auditing by a delegated authority then our pollies will always have their nose in the trough. Essentially remove the reason most of them get into politics to start with.

an education system that teaches people to think for themselves rather than indoctrinating them with nationalism and jingoism   - it's right about here I've got a funny feeling you are trying to be funny here. As Oz has a fully funded religious schooling sector here that is loosely based on the principle of - those who help themselves do best it is becoming quite clear your impresson of Australia is loosely based around the diplomatic myopia of MSM - if they have denim jeans then they have the same form of democracy as us (U.S.A.).

The people can't do anything against state propaganda if the system works against them.  -- We are in total agreement. And as long as there is a federal licencing system that is discriminatory, legalistic, unaffordable and censored for community groups that are cash strapped things will not change soon.

Once you establish an iron grip on society, censor all sensitive information from the media and create a National Internet Firewall - Mien Gott, Its almost like you know the history of politics of Australia for the last fifty years, as this is exactly what the present system describes for me.

It isn't actually that hard to throw democracy out the window.   --- I got some bad news for you. It's already happened.

all you have to do is eliminate the older generation --  Yup, isolate them from the work force. tick. Make their values seem outmoded and stupid. tick.

The younger generation will grow up believing the lies. This is what happened in the last 20 years after Tiananmen Square. It's that easy. It's even easier when people don't want to know the truth.

Examples include the Great Omission from Japanese textbooks and the Great Firewall of China. include the the Australian IP Block Technology, The Power to Detain with Notice, The Power to Enter War illegally Without a Good Reason, The Cheapening of Australian Workers by Making Them Compete with Low Paid Foreign Workers. The list goes on and on and on

How many of us know what life was like 20-50 years ago? I can only find out from TV depictions, history books and informative web pages and YouTube videos. -  if you weren't a victim of the social experiment in dehumanising your older generation you'd have spoken to them first hand by now and heard their stories.................................. how long before you ask someone older than you what it was like before you were allowed to stuff thing s up for the rest of us.

The easiest way to get rid of democracy is to just turn off the Internet, close down all the media, all universities and replace them with organisations you trust will tell the people what you want.  --- Are you a lunatic? The pendulum has just started to sway back the other way for the first time in nearly 400 years of information containment. The attempts by present governments, none the least by the U.S. or Oz or Britain, to clamp down and CENSOR what is being said and repeated on the web is no different in effect to the attempts by clerics to burn printing presses in the past.

If a message is repeated often enough, people will then start believing it. Wait 20-50 years and see what happens. The fact that we need to be kept up-to-date with things just shows how easy it is to create misinformation --------- MMmmmm. I personally tink the power of discrimination - the ability to differentiate one thing under consideration from another - is the greatest ability we need presently in this world.

I am personally very jealous of the U.S. citizens Bill of Rights. I'd give up everything I own, and I mean everything if it meant the realisation of a similar enshrinement in our Constitution. But the days that might occur within my lifetime are fast fading with the noose like grip the greed has on the average Australian persons ideals and values in living life.

There is - as usual - prolly a heap of typo's. Read it and weep.  Cheesy eor
