I would have thought if you don't like ANZAC day and everything they sacrificed for us then you should get out of our country?

This is such a serious day so please forgive this serious post:

It's a day when I will remember WW1 when soldiers were forced
to go over the top of the trenches & charge against 1000's
of machine guns.
Even when such charges failed with tens of  1000's killed -
the charges were repeated in following days with more "canon fodder".
I consider that the generals & the Govt's who sent men -
often against their will - into such acts of suicide should have
been put on trial & hanged.

Instead we fool ourselves that the all the men were brave.
If they didn't go over the top they were shot by their own officers
who remained in the trenches.

It's a day to remember those poor blokes who were forced
to give their lives for no military gain.
It's also a time remember those who were brave.
It's a time to remember the horrors of war &
the peace we have enjoyed in comparison.

and look what they died for !!

the right for any foreigner from any country to come here and buy up any bit of land or real estate they want Sad

I'm sure those diggers would be turning over in their graves in they knew what was happening today Sad

er, yes, that's a civic right of people in a country. As against the aristocracy being given land by the Crown and farmers paying rent to them, your lordship. The big sheep runs were split up for soldier settlers after the wars.

Notice - we can't handle the truth in the Anzac day ceremonies even after 100 years.
Proof:
What I said in my post is never said at Anzac ceremonies.
They never say that officers shot their own men if they failed
to go over the top & face machine guns & almost certain death.

That's right bobby. If you look at it from other perspectives, and delve that little bit deeper, as I do with most things, you will find that we are leaving a hell of a lot out when telling the history of the wars.

An Aussie author couldn't get any publicity for her book about the real Gallipoli story, the myths of Gallipoli, written from actual diaries of the time.

National pride at the expense of truth.

The truth needs to be told even if it presents us in a bad light. How long can we keep pretending?

Hi thats a very appropriate discipline, cowardice can trigger off a panic costing lives and causing defeat.  Yes thats the way it was, are you comforted?

I have just returned home after a great day on ANZAC Day.

I decided not to march in Sydney after my grand kids pleaded for me to march locally.

I did in Springwood, Blue Mountains. It seemed that the whole village was there to cheer us on.

We still had a sprinkling of World War 2 vets and it was great for us younger veterans to rub shoulders with those wonderful men who are now in the sunset of their lives.

I was amazed how enthusiastic the young kids were and just how much they value the Anzac tradition.

We had a touching ceremony at the local cenotaph, to round off a great commemorartion.

The Anzac spirit is alive and well and I can see in the spirit of our youth that nothing has been lost along the way.

This Country is in the safe hands of our young.

P.S. I have had to add a little, more after reading the appalling posts that I walked into.

Anzac Day is about remembering who died for us in War.

It is also about remembering the great Comradeship that existed amongst personnel of the armed forces, who have put it on the line.

I can tell you unequivocally, that the vast majority of ex service personnel, of whom I am one, would view your posts as a bunch of 'cocky sh.t' to put it in the Service vernacular.

Now p.ss off and let us enjoy the rest of OUR DAY in peace!

Far from a sombre event, the Anzac Day service at Lone Pine opened with cheers of "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie ... oi, oi, oi" from a sea of green and gold-clad visitors.

Young and old, men and women, they bombarded Australian Victoria Cross (VC) recipient Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith with requests for autographs and photographs as he entered an arena where thousands had come to remember the Anzac sacrifice.

Ninety-seven years ago the scene at Lone Pine was very different.

It was a bloody battleground where thousands of soldiers lost their lives.

But the Gallipoli area was also important in the blossoming of Australia's nationhood, says Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

Atop rusty-coloured cliffs overlooking Anzac Cove, Ms Gillard spoke of a three-day campaign at the site 97 years ago as "a story of occasional success but ultimate frustration".

"Our federal bond was young when the Anzacs came to this place," she told a crowd of thousands at Lone Pine, many from Australia and New Zealand.

"The laws and institutions of our nation were laid down in 1901. But here, in 1915, its spirit and ethos were sealed.

"This was our first act of nationhood in the eyes of a watching world, an act authored not by statesmen or diplomats, but by simple soldiers."

During an earlier dawn service at Anzac Cove, Ms Gillard paid tribute to the 8700 Australian soldiers who lost their lives during the Turkish invasion, some aged just 14 and 15 years old.

As soldiers scaled the hills, some of the bravest acts of gallantry were seen at Lone Pine, where seven of the nine VCs awarded during the Anzac campaign were earned.

"Three days of vicious fighting soaked this ground in blood," Ms Gillard said of the Lone Pine battle.

"We come here in honour of qualities that defined the Anzacs, and we hope, however faintly, might also define ourselves."

it was not necessary yet was done in covert fashion

What covert fashion? The pommy navy blasted the hills with broadsides from gun turrets before the Anzacs landed. Any dawn surprise was completely lost with no visible targets for the big guns to shoot at. They were right under the Turk army camp on the cliffs. It couldn't have been more open and visible for the Turks.

With the Turks in possession of a weapon that none could have foreseen... A commander who, as it turned out, first revealed of himself his destiny as one of the greatest military and national leaders of the 20th century.

And remembering the people they killed?

The people they killed had families too you know.

Shall we remember them too?
