Anzac Day
Apr 22nd, 2012 at 11:17am

Well here it comes. A public holiday in the middle of the week. Just what I need. Now my delivery will be delayed and for what? To remember some soldiers? Well I actually do remember them. I was there. I wasnt a soldier but I was in Vietnam during the war. Why should it be a public holiday though? I can remember them just fine without. And most people DONT remember it.

I am not Australian but i will attend a service at the university too.

People who has not served in the army do not have the same understanding that we who have been in the army do.

I am still a Reservist and will be so for the next 20 years too.

My admiration is for Australian soldiers who has fight and died for the freedom you enjoy in this country today.

I admire their sacrific and courage.

You will find that Australians, although the most secular people in the world, have a deep respect for ANZAC Day (more than any other day of observance), which could be considered quasi-religious.

I recommend going to the Dawn Service... Recently attendance has been estimated at between 50,000 to over 100,000 in major centres.

There is usually a Jewish service after the main ceremony.

I'm anti war, but it's a nice gesture for those that have been to war.

99.9% of people in this world are anti-war.

I did not know any body in the army who wanted to fight a war.

Includes me.

The politicians are clearly not part of the 99.9% are they?

Those who join the military are not anti war.

By anti war, I mean anti killing, anti fighting, anti all hostilities against other nations.

No one is coming to harm me, I feel quite safe, so no one is saving me from the big bad terrorists.

That's what you get with conscripts. Professional soldiers hold the opposing view.
